Viva Hate

The Steaua Bucharest 1986 banner.

That is a shining example.

Not only did they cause the ban, they then shamelessly taunt us with it. Unreal that for me.

And all that in the face of our (completely correct and spot on) support for Hillsborough families. I’m glad we continue to support that. It transcended into way more than a football/red/blue issue. We should continue doing so.

I have, and have always had, some great mates who are reds and that won't change anytime soon.

There's no doubt the hatred between both sets of fans has got worse over the years since the 'Merseyside Merseyside' chants of the 1980s.

If I had to say what I dislike about them the most is the utter denial of the damage done to us by Heysel. You get comments such as 'you wouldn't have won it anyway' as if we shouldn't be arsed at losing two rightful cracks at European Cups. Given how offended they get at the slightest thing, I would loved to seen what they would have said had another clubs fans got them banned while at their absolute peak.

We may well not have won a European Cup, and they constantly point to the fact we didn't win anything in 85/86 as evidence. Well, Forest in 1980, Villa in 1982 and hey, Liverpool themselves in 2005, are English clubs to have won the big one without winning anything domestically so that 'point' they come out with is total c**p.

Us with a longer memory with recall after their treble in 84 and we won the FA Cup they patronizingly tapped us on the head saying 'that's a good little side you've got there' then a year later when it was us who so nearly won a treble and they finished empty handed for the first time in around 10 years we got bitter comments about 'how many league titles/European Cups have you won?

They constantly call us bitter, but when the trophies dried up and LFC fell off the pace and Man Utd and Chelsea became the dominant forces United and Chelsea fans had to hear hugely bitter comments such as 'United only win things because that Ferguson has referees and the FA in his pocket'. Chelsea's success is all down to 'being a rich mans plaything, buying the title, ruining the game, no history' etc etc. They've even had the high and mighty to question how the Chelsea owner made his money.

Some Liverpool fans are so bitter they were even supporting Man Utd in the 85 cup final against us and were busy chanting 'there's only one Norman Whiteside' at Blues in the Goodison derby 5 days after his winner at Wembley.

That all said, I don't hate LFC I just dislike them with a passion but will always support them over Hillsborough and the injustice over that horrible day in Sheffield.

They wanted to see us relegated and bankrupt in the 90's. I haven't forgotten how excited they were in 94 and 98.

Well yeah, that and the fricking badged coffin they built to parade if we went down. Would be in way bad taste nowadays as lots of people esp kids get personalised coffins, but I still wouldn't put it past them if we were in the same position.

Also "Carra"'s tweet the other day sums up the RS way. More excited about the prospect of 'spoiling' other fans xmas/new year than earning 3 points or advancing in the cup. Miserable, vindictive sods, esp considering we have about twenty times the reasons to hate them as they do us. Even so I don't care if they suffer particularly, I just enjoy the glorious quiet and serenity whenever they get piped the hell down and disappear back into the woodwork.

The Internet is to blame for an escalation in hatred between all local rivals in football.

I don't think I ever heard hate language in the 60s or 70s like I see every day on fan forums - certainly in Scotland.

It's the ability to express extreme feelings in public without fear of correction or challenge that does it.

When I first started going to Goodison in the early 60s we were the kings of Merseyside, The "Millionaires" etc and they only came up from the old div 2 in 63 with the guy who imo started the "cult"...Shankly himself. Once they had won the cup for the first time in their history in 1965 and then a few titles, they became insufferable under that guy. There is a reason why we sing "We hate Bill Shankly etc" and that was because he led them to believe that they had a divine right to win everything. His stupid comments about us "If Everton were playing at the bottom of my garden I'd close the curtains" fuelled their belief in their supposed superiority and this was carried on by Paisley "Travesty of Justice" etc etc culminating in that excuse for a human being Hughes and his teammates' drunken chants in 1977. When we became successful in the eighties they just could not take it and used their own fans' disgraceful behaviour at Heysel to berate us not being able to compete in the European Cup the following season. Having said that its never spoiled friendships I have with match going reds to this day and usually we can have sensible discussions about football.........yes Bill, football won't and never will be more important than life or death...still cannot stand you!!

The hate all really started after they won the European Cup and were parading it through the City. Emlyn Hughes (I can barely type the name without smashing the keyboard) started a chant of Liverpool are magic, Everton are tragic. Many thousands of blues had turned out to cheer them on, for what was a fantastic achievement. Many were thoroughly turned off by his antics and the glee of the RS supporters in mimicry of his drunken chant.

The club that has stood shoulder to shoulder with them over Hillsborough, who suffered most because of Heysel, little wonder we are considered bitter at them with all the bile they throw at us. Hate is too mild a word for that bunch of [poor language not removed but necessary].

Good point. It takes a genuinely hard man to go into a pub full of blues and slag us off. Any rat like that Grundy slime can do it online.

The original post was a nice read but sanitised things, stuff like the banner, the domination of RS as pundits constantly getting digs in, the constant twitter lies about chanting murderers/spitting on the memorial etc whenever they don’t beat us all add up.

Every support has its idiots but they are pretty much a worldwide joke for their delusions and ridiculous OTT behaviour.
