On our books we now have the hottest young property in British football, the hottest young property in Spanish football and the hottest young striking prospect in European football. Wow. Unbelieavable. Let's make the most of it because it will never be repeated. Let's face it in a year or two we could well have none of the three still with us. How very sad that is.

....reality check. A few seasons ago we thought we had the best squad since the mid-80s and struggled. First 3 games this season haven't been so good so we just need to manage expectation. Amazing how the feel good factor is returning without us kicking a ball. We are in a period of transition and I just want to see things improving on the pitch.

Was it 10 years we boasted that we had the best young English player and the best young Scottish player?

End Result? Lock up your granny and don't worry about the other one.

The what Eggs said. Defo a feel good factor since the signings.

....and three of the hottest prospects for Ireland in Shay, James, and Shane Duffy with Gibbo a distinct possibility if he can stay fit (and once Trap goes).

Boss goalkeeper with two established centre halves. One of the best in England.

Two of the leagues best wing backs, Baines and Coleman

IMO, playing ahead of them on the wing, Deulofeu one side, Mirallas the other

Experience: Barry and Gibson with the exciting prospect of McCarthy in the centre

England's best talent since Wayne Rooney playing behind the striker

One of the leagues hottest strikers on the rise

It looks and sounds great. That team is simply possible of winning and competing at the top.

They're exciting prospects, but that's all. Don't forget Barkley and Deulofeu have only played a handful of top flight games between them and no Champions League games. Lukaku has more experience but the fact that Chelsea were happy to loan him out should tell us that he too still has things to prove.

I'm not saying he's the finished article, but what does the fact that the current Chelsea manager put the world's best goalie on the bench last year prove.
Apart from that, Mourinho is like an arrogant, slightly bolder version of Moyes and has never really trusted youth.

I agree with your point though mate. We shouldn't be putting the weight of expectation on these lads' shoulders.

Agreed. But the thread was not saying we're going to be great. It was just pointing out the unprecedented quality of the names we have on the books. Not to mention another dozen or so in the squad who might make it to the World Cup.
