How many of it's spares, small arms, logistic vehicles and supplies has it used. And how much of experience is in the troops already wasted. That's a better measure.
He’s either a Russian bot, a WUM or @chicoazul. Maybe all three? Can't believe how Bobby The Brain Heenan has changed his opinion three weeks time.
Been thinking about the examples of perception vs. reality in Russian history. Increasingly, it seems as if the Russian army is a Potemkin Village for the modern era.
And maybe le Carre had it right in The Russia House
Fair enough. I’m not so well-versed in military matters (more of a literature guy), but have some friends at DoD who are completely flabbergasted by what they are seeing from the Russian army. Not sure about that - they’ve always had the numbers and the willingness to use them as an extension of policy. They’ve also got very advanced (vs the West at any rate) in some areas, especially SAMs and anti ship missiles) neither of which have been required so far in this war to any great extent.
There’s also an awful lot we (at least publicly) don’t know about them, from the closed cities to the actual nature of their economy (as in the West seems to have assumed that the oligarchs nicked all the money rather than hiding it everywhere). They do love there masirovka too.
