Victory Day May 9th can't come soon enough for the Russian's. Perhaps then Lavrov will throw Ukraine a bone because they have to. Or the inconceivable could occur as tactical nuclear weapons will be used. They don't have to many choices.

NATO would have a field day in a conventional war with the way the Russian army is run today. To much corruption within it's ranks to contend with a determined foe like Ukraine.

lol, if you believe this you either live in Russia, or for some reason wish you did.

First off, maybe half of their stated military is actually operational. Second, if only 10% of their air force(120 jets, 50 helicopters), and 7% of their tanks(900) have been sent in, its been catastrophic and their military units in Ukraine have all been essentially wiped out. If we take just half of what current estimates are of Russia's losses, Russia still has lost 50-70% of the fighting force and major equipment it sent in, based on your "source". So I guess take your pick, either Russia has committed a massive amount of their military and gotten beaten back, or have committed a major part of their military and gotten crushed.

Been thinking about the examples of perception vs. reality in Russian history. Increasingly, it seems as if the Russian army is a Potemkin Village for the modern era.
And maybe le Carre had it right in The Russia House

Not sure about that - they’ve always had the numbers and the willingness to use them as an extension of policy. They’ve also got very advanced (vs the West at any rate) in some areas, especially SAMs and anti ship missiles) neither of which have been required so far in this war to any great extent.

There’s also an awful lot we (at least publicly) don’t know about them, from the closed cities to the actual nature of their economy (as in the West seems to have assumed that the oligarchs nicked all the money rather than hiding it everywhere). They do love there masirovka too.

Fair enough. I’m not so well-versed in military matters (more of a literature guy), but have some friends at DoD who are completely flabbergasted by what they are seeing from the Russian army.
Makes one question the veracity of Russian claims regarding more advanced weaponry

It is truly an eye opener to most people and NATO to see just how hollow the Russian threat, apart from its nukes, really is. China may as well just roll into Mongolia and Eastern Russia as coming up against the USA etc for a piddling little island like Taiwan, and Japan may as well take back its northern islands. Russia threatening nukes to everyone who sends arms or gives them a dirty look, isn’t working anymore. Who in Europe now believes that Russia has the capability to send its tanks rampaging in from the East. They are a busted flush, a paper tiger. Yes they have nukes and could indeed use them, but Russia and it’s people would then no longer exist.…..
