“France’s military intelligence chief is to step down after just seven months in the post reportedly for failing to accurately predict Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in contrast to Britain and America.

He was also in the firing line for France's inability to detect US-British plans to torpedo its multi-billion-euro submarine deal with Australia and create their own alternative AUKUS strategic pact - a move the French slammed as a “stab in the back”.

General Eric Vidaud, who has led the Direction of Military Intelligence (DRM) since only last summer, is to step down from his post with immediate effect, according to several senior military sources.”

…This from a country that wants to lead the military of the EU……

If Ukraine had the capability to take out parts of Russia's oil and gas infrastructure Putin would find himself in an even more precarious place. I'm not sure that Germany would be overly happy about this though.

Problem is, it hands Putin a perfect propaganda tool, cos you can bet your bottom dollar that he will show that on Russian TV.

I think a significant network of gas pipelines supplying Europe run through Ukraine ?

If I remember rightly one of Russia’s supposed gripes was how much Ukraine were charging in transit costs.

As you say, the downside being the impact on those who Ukraine currently depend on for support.

With an AT mine, you need significant amount of pressure on the plate for the pressure cap/striker to ignite the detonator. Without it, they’re not going to go up.

Giving it a kick around isn’t my choice of activities, but it’s relatively safe.

I can be honest here and say if I spotted a mine, any mine I would not go anywhere near it, never mind start to kick it around or walk off into the woods carrying one with a ciggy dangling out of my gob.
