That wouldn’t solve anything. The country would still be strangled by the oligarchs and Russian mafia stealing all the wealth. Not to mention FSB being behind the constant troll farms and disinformation campaigns that the whole world is struggling with.

It would solve getting rid off Putin and for me that would be a great start.

I honestly don’t think it is. This calming down and then Russia slowly moving back to reasonableness is the best outcome to this crisis.

If it’s true and it happens, I really think there should be a considerable rapprochement with Turkey by the West after this. Erdogan has done some bad things in the past but if they manage to get a negotiated end to this that both sides can live with, I think they definitely need to be treated with more respect.

I disagree. Letting Putin get away with the destruction of another country and the extermination of thousands of people is not a reasonable outcome.

We wouldn’t; invading Ukraine and at least containing the rest of the Russian border (and Kaliningrad, and other suspect states) would require hundreds of thousands of troops, tanks, aircraft and all the logistical support. We’d be there for years / decades after, too.

I don’t mean to descend into whataboutery, and personally I’d love it if world leaders were held legally responsible for their crimes, but the fact is they almost never face justice here below.

What needs to happen is that the war stops, Ukraine still exists as a country which decides its own fate, and the wider world turns away from the abyss. This crisis has shown how interdependent we all are, and the world needs to realise that rather than sticking to this selfishness that is helping ruin the planet.

Absolutely. There is zero chance there would even be a sniff of this until it was done and dusted.

Maybe they’re spreading this information to create some uncertainty and agitation within Putin’s mind about his own power grip being able to be shaken. Maybe it is a strategy to get him to come to a compromise with Zelenskyy.

After this is over, I really like to think there will be serious discussion on world Nuke disarmament. We have all seen now how the threat can be used so negatively. We need more Reagan, Gorbachev and dare I say it, Thather, type discussions
