Only because of their nuclear threat, they're armed forces are showing they're a shoddy outfit, what freightens me is he might use one when this invasion goes tits up. Absolute lunatics

The west has underestimated Putin and his military incursions for a long time. The punishment in the past hasn’t been significant against Putin and that’s why he feels emboldened to continue conquering free countries. I understand Zelensky criticism. The situation in Ukraine is becoming genocidal. The speech Putin gave yesterday to the Russian people, along with his conversation with Macron clearly indicates he wants full control of Ukraine. But since he doesn’t have the military forces to maintain the occupation then he will just destroy the country and murder all its people and nothing is being done.

Another way to look at this is lots of carrots to leverage for a more pragmatic regime.
Officially, we are not pursuing a policy of regime change. Biden's administration repudiated Graham's comments. Johnson's administration keeps admitting to an agenda of regime change, then backpedaling.

Practically speaking, regime change is the policy that's likely to come out of this. Full normalization will probably require either Putin's death or removal and shipment to the Hague. We're clearly not willing to put boots on the ground or planes in the air, but we're killing Russians through weapons shipments just as surely as we killed them in Afghanistan.

The concern is that, sooner or later, Putin is probably going to take exception to this. We don't have a lot of tools left in the toolkit to manage the saber-rattling. If there's a plus in this mess, it's that everyone now suspects that NATO would win a crushing victory. Debatably, that makes the risks of joining the fight far greater due to the specter of nuclear weapons.

I am at awe at the determination of Ukrainians and I think if the fight was fair they would definitely win this war. But I’m afraid Putin won’t be playing fair and he will be using the most powerful weapons in his arsenal so he can annihilate anyone that gets on his way. One thing Putin has proof is that he has no conscious so he is determined to flatten Ukraine and its people at all cost. He doesn’t care about destroying what’s above because what he wants, Ukraine’s natural resources are below.
