Christ, throwing numbers at a battlefield is no good in the modern arena if the equipment and tactics they are using are massively outdated.
The French learned this Over 100 years ago in WWI when they tried sending cavalry troops on horseback, wearing blue tunics and metal breastplates towards German machinegun fire.

Difference is, they didn't just keep on doing it throughout.

If you care to read the first thing I said on the post you replied to “I’m no fan of Lebedev”. I am not defending him. I haven’t defended any of them. You are the one that defended Abramovich and Usmanov

I didn’t defend them, I pointed out that they were essentially meaningless in sanctions terms and that the real targets of sanctions (and associated measures that deal with the serious problems in our politics) should be those who are much closer to the politicians that run this country.

Wow very cool man our own recon expert on GOT, so you went to Iraq and Libya? Just been having a read about your squadron.

My grandad was RAF ground crew, Spitfire instrument fitter in WW2 based in Algeria, he was also seconded to the USAF for 6 months to refit some of their fighters, dad still has a ppl, he’s 76, bless him.

Ha! Boeing RC-135 (Electonic recon bird). Basically a spy in the sky.

They are there to intercept, record analyse any and all electronic emissions from hostile targets. That includes radar, radio comms including cell phones. Basically if anything radiates - these birds pick it up

ComInt and SigInt? Absolutely vital to be hoovering this stuff up.

One of my most treasured books is "And I Was There" by Edwin Layton, which breaks down the extensive use of Comms intel and signals intel by the US military in the run-up to Pearl Harbour and then the subsequent Pacific campaign against Japan. I have no doubt the tech has moved on a bit... But wow. Such an incredibly scientific aspect of warfare.
