I understand the tactics employed by political class there to retain power. in fact they arent very difficult to discern.

In this social media world this is going to different than before, not that I know many Russians - 3 to be exact but they all know the score. The people leaving the country, this is all unknown territory as they would have stood behind the leader (and lies) through thick and thin. Is it enough this time? ...maybe not, but times they are a-changin' as someone once sung.

I do agree with the social media angle.

In fact I have heard of a big divide between young and old in their views on this in Russia.

People tend to base their views on the information they have on a given situation

Older people in Russia get all their information via state controlled media

Younger people get all their information from the Internet and non state controlled media.

All the time people like you use the internet to demonize anyone who suggests Putin SHOULD be stopped, it's hard to see the best course to bring things to a close.

He's absolutely desperate to raze these cities to the ground, frustrated that he cant because of residents presence.

If anything he is getting harder in his approach - if that was possible.
