When you have neighbouring EU safe havens next door that’s where you are going to go

lots will but not all.
It doesn't take a massive army to stage a successful guerrilla war. (success not being victory, success being making the occupiers miserable)
It will cost russia and absolute fortune to police Ukraine.
Add to that, sanctions on hardware and materials (even semi conductors and chips) and it'll be beyond them.

Again I just think there’s a misunderstanding of how much support there is in Russia for his actions.

Clearly not everyone supports it but to suggest it’s some extreme minority view there simply isn’t the case.

no but surely the shorter distance to resupply etc when you have massive forces available in your own country helps

It appears as if Russia have upped the ante in terms of air attacks. It can’t be confirmed, but there’s talk that they’re going for Zelenskyy and his cabinet with more grounds troops too.
