Issue with this is it's a smoke and mirrors aid package.

It relies upon the 'interest' generated by the frozen reserves.

Unless somehow it's generating over 10-15% per year then it's gonna be loans based upon the future interest accrued over a long period of time. Which means the US and EU are paying out their own pockets for them.

Sounds good to the general public though to make it sound like they aren't paying and they're using the Russian assets instead.
As long as Ukraine are offered the support to defend themselves and fight the invading Orcs. That's what right minded folk support.

It's their home and families. As long as they want to defend this against a true pariah state, they will have the support of right minded people.

Ofc it's why the likes of Boris Johnson and Lindsey Graham often bang the drum about allowing them to fight to the last Ukrainian.

Lots of European and US politicians very brave in arguing for this. Lots of Ukrainian politicians too, all their sons are off living in western Europe ofc and when it all collapses their father's will join them.

Ofc, when people are motivated they will do what they feel is required. Defending your home and family against a horde of genocidal murdering rapists is the motivation that has seen Putins 3 day invasion now over 1000 days. We'll soon be at 1,000,000 Russians killed our injured.

Lots of Russian propogandists very brave in arguing for this pointless massacre of Russians. Lots of Russian politicians too, all their sons are off living in western Europe ofc and when it all collapses their father's will join them.

Remember when the news broke that a lot of the famous ones had been paid very handsomely by Russia for doing exactly that, and they all spluttered and claimed to be innocent victims themselves when caught with no idea where the roubles had come from? Presumably that's another slice of justice that will never be meted out now Trump's on his way back in.

Another reminder of how effective cutting fossil fuel consumption here, and helping the developing world to not get addicted in the first place, would be.

Get the global price south of $50 a barrel for a significant amount of time and it would do more damage than sanctions, even maximalist sanctions, ever would. We’d all be better off as a planet, too.

Out of interest, does the Russian media mention the civilian targets they are bombing or do you have to find out from overseas sources?

I don't really consume much russian media but yeah it's not covered - unless they are trying to debunk something - the NPP shelling in Zaph for example or if a place is struck and there's evidence it was by either AA or a downed missile by AA.

Neither side is showing the actual events how they happened imo, both have very good reasons to portray it in a very propogandised way.

A lot of the truth of what happened in a huge number of incidents won't come out for a long long time is my best guess.

It's probably, actually no probably about it, it is the single most propogandised conflict in history right now. From all countries involved media and politicians.

Want to have the best idea then the only choice is to read/listen to both sides and try to find at least some neutral or at least not super biased sources, read them than use reasoning to make a decision based on that.

Way too many people in here see articles linked then just assume because it's from a none russian source it must be the truth, don't think I've ever linked say RT or Sputnik articles - why not, because by and large they will tell only the russian version - even if that happens to be one hundred percent true it'll still not be trustworthy for example as the source is compromised. But yet on here I regularly see things from places like the Atlantic council - Deborah Kagan runs it, Wash Post - Robert Kagan the consulting editor (NAI founder, Carnegie fellow various other links to different outlets also)
The Institute for the study of war ISW - founded by Kimberley Kagan.

Roberts wife ofc is victoria Neuland - her of the Ukrainian cookie handouts during the 2014 maidan, and arch neocon.
Kimberly is the wife if the other son Frederick Kagan.

Their father ofc the noted Donald Kagan - who was a lecturer at Yale, one of his students was Anne Applebaum vehement anti russian historian and arch neocon - russian expert/writer for the Atlantic - just so happens she's married to the Polish Defence minister btw.

The Kagan clan has long since had a very very clear agenda against Russia and are interwoven through a huge amount of the media, NGOs and politics.
