My man @davids quoting the Kiev independent as gospel lately, I wonder how he feels about 1950 of his comrades being lost in 1 day.. I mean the kiev independent is a reputable truthful source right he's said it himself, If Russia are making gains it's because they are charging Ukrainian positions and taking massive casualties Every dead Russian is a bullet less for the Ukrainian defenders.

Not good news for Vlad, this.

In attempts to stop runaway inflation due to increased defense spending, the Russian Central Bank has increased the interest rate to record high 21% and will “very likely” raise it again in December. It is unclear whether they will be able to stop inflation this way, but this move is likely to bear devastating consequences for Russian businesses, already hurt by Western sanctions.

Many are already reporting a drastic increase in late payments from counterparties – a worrying sign for the economy. Financial experts are expecting a “wave” of bankrupcies to sweep the Russian market over the next several months, and many leading businesses have grim prognoses for 2025.

Russia’s biggest steel manufacturer, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, have enough reserves only for another 6 months and have a “very negative” outlook for 2025.

Samolet group, a major real estate developer is also on the brink of collapse – their sales are down 37%, and one of the biggest shareholders is trying to sell his stake in the company. As a systemic company for the Russian economy, the default of Samolet would likely require a government bailout.

Russia’s Union of Shopping Centers has appealed to the government for support. They are requesting subsidized interest rates of 7-10 percent, debt restructuring, and payment deferrals of 5-10 years. Without these measures, 200 shopping centers risk bankruptcy.

Among other companies that foresee a default in their future are Krial Energo Stroy plant and strategic enterprise “Rosgeologia”, while national restaurant chain “Kuzina” has technically defaulted already.

Even the defense industry is not safe from the effects of the interest rate hike. Sergey Chemezov, the head of the state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec warned, “If we keep operating like this, most of our businesses will go bankrupt. Even arms sales don’t generate enough profit [to service debt at rates above 20 percent].”

Stuff that has been forecast for some time.

They will just grow more potatoes comrade and potatoes will come to the rescue.

@Mutzo Nutzo - following on from your Waltz post. If they push the looming economic collapse in Russia and allow the use of long range weapons inside Russia it will make things very uncomfortable for Puting and the eyes within Russia will be on him. He might even catch Russian Window Cancer.

Waltz said he believed it was "perfectly reasonable" that the war in Ukraine could end with "some type of diplomatic resolution."

Waltz, 50, suggested the U.S. would have leverage over Russian President Vladimir Putin in any potential negotiations by both enforcing energy sanctions and ramping up U.S. energy exports.

"His economy and his war machine will dry up very quickly," Waltz said. "I think that will get Putin to the table," he added. "We have leverage, like taking the handcuffs off of the long-range weapons we provided Ukraine as well."

I suppose we'll soon find out if he does have dirt on Trump.

Lots of hawkish rhetoric flying about, that coupled with a barrage of misinformation make it hard to discern what the actual US govt stance on Ukraine will be.

The US if they so wish can really ramp up the pressure on Putin but also they could ramp up the pressure on Ukraine.

Too early to tell how this will play out. One thing we know for sure is that the US policy toward the Ukraine/Russia war will shift significantly.

I'd be more surprised if Putin didn't have dirt on Trump. After the talk of the honey trap on his visit before he was President the first time, I think it's highly plausible that there's something there for Trump to worry about.

Trump's probably just an old fashioned dirty old man who likes pretty young women but hey ho, I suppose they could have proposed some kinky embarrassing games that a man of little wit would have followed without question, so potentially something lurid to amuse us all in the cheap seats if it does come out.

I think the Trump camp are trying to see what they can sell at the moment. Any concessions on Iran/ Israel and how they impact on Ukraine will be interesting to see.

From Russia, reports that Finland is probably going to start re-opening the land borders from February next year. Their economy has tanked badly without their Russian visitors - more mood music that this countries are looking at a shift in the new year to this getting sorted one way or another.

The Ritz Carlton Moscow toilet session on the bed Obama had stayed in, though unproven, almost sounds plausible with Mr grab them by the p**sy.
