Cowardly **^%#€s. But yeah according to the vatnik trolls on here Ukraine should negotiate peace with these monsters. Russia understands only force and subjugation - you can’t reason with that - you have to fight against it.

Biden administration and other western nations have seriously failed Ukraine here, however I think a corner is about to be turned and permission given to use western supplied LR strike weapons against Russian military bases. The US now working on modifying Mig-29’s to carry the AGM-158’s

What makes you think that?

What makes you think that?
By drip feeding arms and ammunition to Ukraine and putting restrictions on western supplied LR strike weapons that could seriously ruin Putins day.

They want Ukraine to keep hurting Russia and weaken its armed forces but they see a defeat of Russia as red line (My guess is they’re worried about a power vacuum in Russia should Putin be lobbed out of a window).

However IMO they are playing their game with Ukrainian lives, hopes and dreams.

Yes, but more specifically I think you were referring to the release of JASSMs to Ukraine.

It looks like assent will be given to a short range version of the missile system (250m range as opposed to their more advanced 500M range). But they won't be available and supplied for "months".

That brings into question the willingness of the US to send these weapons, as the pan won't survive the political cycle if Trump gets in.

In any case, the weapons in question won't - like Storm Shadow missiles - penetrate the deep bunkers where Russian arms supplies will be stored in. They'll be used on Russian towns and cities. I think the yanks know that and won't trust the Ukrainians to stick to military targets with them.

I'd say the long range missiles are off the table...though no doubt there'll be a pacification of the Ukrainians in the short term with assent to provide them.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

The JASSM (AGM-158) has an estimated range of between 230-330 miles - don’t care what’s written in wiki - it has been tested successfully at ranges beyond 300 miles.

It has a 1000lb penetrator warhead - for destruction of hardened buildings and it is also far more stealthy and offers greater survivability than Stormshadow/ SCALP-EG or the Ukrainian Neptune cruise missile.

It’s already configured and certified for use on the F-16. Now they are working on modding it for use on ex-soviet airframes. In my earlier post I referenced the Mig-29 (my bad - they are working on the SU-24 not the Mig-29).

It only took them 6 weeks to modify the SU-24 for Stormshadow/SCALP so the timeframes for AGM-158 will be similar.

Also unlike the shithouse Russians it won’t be used to target civilians / but limited to military installations - C2/C3, Hardened aircraft shelters, bomb dumps etc…

Shocking report from a few weeks back from Meduza and Mediazona, but hey go team Putin , it doesn't matter how many Russian lives his imperial murder campaign costs.

That's been clear since the start. I always said they'd throw the Ukrainians under the bus at some point. The West has no intention of being directly involved in any of this. That's an understandable position for as long as there is no realistic danger of a direct Russian attack. The Baltics might fear that, but Germany, France, and the UK really don't. However, they encouraged certain elements in Ukraine into taking what some might argue were huge risks over the last decade, just as they had the Georgians in 2008, and now, surprise, surprise, there is no genuine will to have anthing more than a proxy war.

Today's political ructions in Ukraine suggest they might be running out of road.

"Each JASSM has a large, 1,000-pound warhead, but unlike the Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles already provided to Kyiv by Britain and France, it is not explicitly designed to penetrate hardened bunkers."....which I took to mean it wasn't capable of doing it.

Some more in here questioning how 'stealthy' they are.

It's been a very bad week-to-ten-days for the Kyiv regime. Their credibility is in tatters.

They lose a US fighter first time into battle, then suffer a barrage of missiles they couldn't protect their people from, then the missile strike in Lviv wiping out scores of electronic warfare soldiers and now they've reacted to it all by making scapegoats out of the political hierarchy below Zelensky and his crony advisers.

The taking of Pokrovsk could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

What Ukrainian citizen could have any faith in those clowns now?

The warhead on the JASSM is designed with a dense metal case for maximum penetration. The warhead is filled with advanced insensitive explosive.

This insensitive explosive is a substance known as AFX-757. It’s a propellant-like, plastic bonded explosive (PBX) developed to maximise the blast energy output whilst being very insensitive to shock (like the warhead passing through concrete, soil, rock etc)

The warhead also employs a Hard Target Smart Fuse (HTSF), an accelerometer based electronic fuse which allows control of the detonation point by layer counting, distance or time. The accelerometer senses G loads on the bomb due to deceleration as it penetrates through to the target. The fuse can distinguish between earth, concrete, rock and air very similar to the German Taurus missile.

So you can see it was designed as a precision deep strike, hard target weapon. Its stealthy ability allows it to operate in AD saturated areas and survive until impact on target.

Well whatever they're made of and whatever their impact on a target, they won't be getting a single one if Trump gets in.

Regardless of Trump though, the yanks have been heavy with the promises and only hand over about half of what they promise to Ukraine...and after a very long wait.

Russia will be achieving a lot of strategic goals by the time any of them are deployed and this war is looking at an end if Trump does get in.
