I don't know it it has been reported in UK media, but president Macron made a TV appearance yesterday.
He upped the anti Russian stuff and said he's ready to deploy french military to Ukraine. Seems some NATO troops are already there.
He reminded everybody that France has the biggest military in the EU and was the second largest arms exporter after USA.
So, on verra.

What he says and what he does are a different matter .
Can't see any nato troops openly fighting in the Ukrainian.
If the French actually went there they would undoubtedly have an effect on the outcome.
Hopefully we don't get sucked into it.

It is in the UK media but you have to go digging. Ukraine is not front page at the moment. Macron is making a lot of noise and more so than most EU/ western leaders over Ukraine; how much use that is remains to be seen.

The French being kicked out of Francophone African countries with Russias backing will be smarting, I'm sure.

It's not very popular with the french public if opinion polls taken after the broadcast are to be accepted.

I guess Macron just watched the Napoleon movie!

Talk can be cheap, however Europe needs strong leadership at this time - is he trying to fill that hole? Who knows. Time and actions will count, so I’m prepared to sit back and see how this plays out.
He's no Napoleon, no ideas of empire.
He says that Putin will retake the old Soviet Union territory should Ukraine lose their conflict.
No other European leader seems to want to stand up and be counted.
His views aren't popular with the french public.

The problem is that strong leadership does not equal sending token forces into Ukraine.

Strong leadership now is boosting domestic military (and industrial) production whilst cutting consumption and improving inequalities domestically and abroad by the supply of renewable technologies at cost (or below cost) to Africa, Asia and anyone else who wants them. It should be a European-wide (EU and the UK) effort to cut petroleum consumption by 5% a year; doing that would collapse the Russian economy centuries before sanctions will.

Russia keeps going on about multi-polarity, so the West should offer that but in a much more genuine form than what is coming out of Moscow.

Oh I agree completely. Let’s see if Macron’s grandstanding amounts to significant upturn in French and European military spending and production.

I don’t for one moment expect to see French or U.K. boots on the ground in Ukraine anytime soon. But Europe needs a figurehead to galvanise strategic military vision, planning and production - maybe Macron sees that vacuum and is going for it?

Russia has transitioned to a wartime economy and even now is out-pacing the entire west in the production of arms and ammunition - this needs to change. If it doesn’t, then Ukraine will fall and the world will become a whole lot more scary.

After the Elections Putin will give a victory speech, a man who's rigged the whole thing in his favour including not allowing others to oppose him and having others killed will give a victory speech and will get congratulated by his buddies in Iran China and NK... I'd love to know how a free fair election would actually go for him.
