Bet Putin is wetting himself with laughter at the thought of more Western sanctions mutterings from Lord kiss my ass Cameron. One would also hoped to believe there was nothing left to sanction after invading another sovereign country and continuing engaging in a war with tens if not hundreds of thousands dead Still money talks it seems, even now.

If he does manage to win back power it will be game over for Ukraine.

Would be sad to see, think I would give up watching the news.
It's over for Ukraine regardless, It's been obvious since the start and said numerous times that NATO will only supply Ukraine until it's obvious that Russia pose no threat to other countries, that point has likley been reached, it will take Russia a generation to replace lost equipment and that's if sanctions are lifted.

Fair assessment. Depressing but fair.

As predicted by some of us, the Ukrainians are being slowly thrown under a bus by the Americans. It will only get worse as the year goes on and Trump looms. This was always going to happen.

I notice today that, apparently, the five biggest western oil companies have made €300b from the war. Notice how there is plenty of crazy talk of seizing and spending €300b in frozen Russian assets (mainly held by Europeans) on reconstructing Ukraine with all the obvious danger to Europe that that would entail, but no suggestion of doing similar with these blood oil profits (a huge chunk of which are American).

We’re being played.

Horrendous footage coming out of Avdiivka. It is a disgrace that we promised to help but have left them to take a beating, and thank god that the Ukrainians pulled out. Maybe this was a difference of opinion with the general being switched.
It probably is. Zaluzhnyi wanted them out weeks ago. The new guy gave the order to pull out a day after the evacuation started and allowed a barrel shoot for the Russians.

I’ve said this before but seizing those funds would be the stupidest thing that these idiots in charge could do, and they’ve done a lot of stupid things so far.

in what way? do you think we should stop helping the Ukies or?
American oil and LNG companies have made a fortune from this war. European citizens (and businesses) are suffering a fall in living standards as a result of higher energy costs. The idea that Europe should now expropriate frozen Russian assets - the vast majority of which are held by European countries - and spend it on reconstructing Ukraine is fantastically self-serving for the US. They are barely exposed at all - and therefore the inevitable Russian retaliation will further hit Europe and not the US. On top of that, the damage it would do to Europe's credibility in finance markets is incalculable. Will we be expropriating Israeli assets too? Oh, they're not even frozen, currently... At some point, Europeans need to smell the heather.

It'd definitely be a gamble but a calculated one. I'm sure that many analysts will have it that a Russian/Putin victory would the worst possible outcome for the world/democracy. And let's be clear, that is what is on the table here.
