I know winter is here, but are Ukraine getting any air power sorted anytime soon?
Initial cadre of 32 Pilots should complete their F-16 training in Feb 24 along with the ground crews (These were all experienced Mig-29 and SU-27 pilots with good English).

Ukraine will then be able to stand up 2 full sqns with an OCU in March 24.

Training will be ongoing for pilots throughout 2024 with the ultimate aim of being able to deploy 4 full sqns with an OCU by the end of Sep 24.

So what @davek said?

Sounds like they might be ready just in time of the US presidential election and the potential fallout of that for Ukraine.

I said it'd take thousands of training hours. A top US pilot would take 500 hours for a transition to an F16 if they'd never piloted it plus 210 hours theory...and they do it under a thousand hours because they speak and read excellent English and now every piece of theory and practical reading inside out and sideway and backwards.

How many Ukrainians do we think can match that? Probably zero unless they grew up in an English speaking country.

As said 'thousands' of hours training for a Ukrainian to expertly fly those planes.

The experienced Uke pilots will require somewhere in the region of 350 dedicated training hours.

Oh and they’ll be buying Gripens from Sweden in 2024 as their longer term solution, so there’ll be no future dependency on the US.

Has he gone missing now ?……I’ve tried reading everything up to date but the only thing that really caught my eye were the breasts of two women, most of the rest was just noise …no offence to anyone…..
He’s probably lying low. As most banned multi’s do he gave himself away.

@hullefc was a looney pro Russia, west-hating mass quoting persona who strangely enough mentioned that he had passed the Bootle school leavers exams when he was 15 in both the grammar school thread and the Russian spy/Salisbury thread.

Then we have @ramacca in this thread making the very same revelation and we all know about his posting history.

So I presume they are also training a group of pilots to be ready for Gripens when they come in.

Nope that will be an entirely different program. Only when the financial deal is done will they commence their training.

The F-16’s are an immediate must have (albeit interrim solution) for them to solve a number of urgent problems they are facing on the front line. The Gripens are the strategic longer term solution for them.
