I say that brings a tear to the eye of the poor Ukrainian soldiers as bullets wizz by thier heads. They look at that and feel emboldened to fight on. All the cheerleaders.... doing absolutely fug all.

The UN have drafted a security council resolution in light of Russian actions. The vote is due soon.

The vote will not pass as Russia themselves have veto on the vote. People are looking to see where the likes of China vote in the matter.

I must be missing something here because to me it sounds like either they are doing something that will never pass so therefore do nothing. Or the UN has turned into some crappy reality game show just to see if China still fancies Russia or have they moved onto another love interest.

This is like Congressional chess, when one of the party leaders forces a vote on something to put the opposition's members in a tough spot and either erode their base for the next primary or gain ammunition to use in the next general election.

China has to stake out a public position in favor of peace at the UN. They also would knock Taiwan over tomorrow if they thought they could get away with it, and have various cooperation agreements with Russia. China and Russia are currently more or less allies (though not formally), but recall that Hitler attacked his 'ally' in Stalin. If there's a schism growing between China and Russia, we want to know about it.

In general, the Security Council can do little and the General Assembly less. The overlap set of agreement among the five permanent members of the Security Council is very small. That said, the members use the Security Council and General Assembly as channels for communication when they want to send a clear and open message to other parties, so people pay attention to that.

It's something that may stop him from pushing the button. One thing going to war with NATO, another launching a nuclear strike knowing that the other side will immediately lay waste to Moscow and other Russian cities. You'd have to think about that very carefully.

A quick scan of the information out there on this weapons system suggests that the mobile Topol-Ms are stationed several hours away.

With their air power a little busy, it makes sense to move them underneath their best static anti-aircraft and anti-missile defenses for safety.

I‘m sorry, but while I sort of admire your efforts to present the other side of an argument, as I tend to do fairly often, I’m afraid that there is a time and a place for this. An invasion of a friendly country isn’t really the time nor the place. Perhaps a period of reflection by yourself regarding the human cost and suffering of Putins actions might be in order…..

Putin is just saying "I don't like nato. Dont like them so close to me. I am afraid Ukraine Will join nato and so I am taking Ukraine." Its prity transparent if nothing else. . I dont like war. I would rather this not to be happening.
