And that’s my point - it means too much to them to stop investing in it. They certainly don’t want an end to it at any cost. yes they probably do want it to end - but only if the result is a total Russian withdrawal

I don’t think they’re stupid enough to assume that Russian capitulation will happen (although maybe I’m wrong and they intend to massively escalate in which case we are all in trouble)

I don't know what terms they'd settle for. Maybe power sharing in the east, who knows.
They don't have zero interest in the war ending. I think everyone wants to see a quick resolution to this but fears an inevitable drawn out mess.
