We were told that most officers were rubbish and senior NCOs were those to deal with as they monopolised the unit; junior NCOs were poorly trained.

The worry is if they send in their top units to bolster the attack, but I genuinely don't know why they never did - a potential massive faux pas.

The worry now is that if Putin wants to push this he will default to using his arty with thermobaric warheads. That’s bad news for the general population as it would mean mass casualties.
