That seems a pretty nebulous trade-off for bringing NATO even closer to his border and killing tens of thousands of his armed forces. He could have achieved most of that by shutting off the gas without the need for an expensive war.

they did try that as well, fwiw

The long-range aspect will be utilised more to protect their air assets, combined with its accuracy. They'll be safe in western Ukraine when they deploy them...

... meaning they'll be safe from Russia air defence and any encroaching Russian aircraft, all while still putting the warhead on the target. The Russians won't like it.

The use of the weapons on Crimea, Russian territory or anything like that is a no-no; Eastern Ukraine, that'll be okay.
Thing is Ukraine sees Crimea as their sovereign territory.

So as far as they’re concerned it’s open season. I fully expect to see that bridge get dropped very soon

In general, yes. However, Russia see Crimea somewhat differently to Ukraine, and the reports suggest that one of the conditions is that currently it's a no*.

I am fairly sure that the west will not want to see Europes borders redrawn through acts of war and Russian imperialsm. Ukraine certainly will not recognise Putins illegal land grab.

The key statement from Ben Wallace

Mr Wallace said the missiles would "allow Ukraine to push back Russian forces based on Ukrainian sovereign territory".

Depends on what has been defined as Ukrainian sovereign territory. Ask Zelensky and he’ll confirm that Crimea is theirs.

If people want to see things from a political stance and give their opinions on what they think should be the approach based on what they think would be the most beneficial outcome for our country or a specific region then that's fine, declare it and own it.

At this point if someone doesn't actually believe in the right and cause for Ukraine to defend and take back it's sovereign borders then you really need to reflect upon your moral compass.

Anyone defending, sympathising or trying to play the proverbial devil's advocate for Russia should be regarded with deep suspicion and would probably have been doing the same for the Nazi party in the 1930/40s.
