Apparently 70 000 people protesting in Prague over rising energy prices, i guess its started and only gonna get worse. I don't know how is it in your country, but here prices of everything going crazy, electricity bills especially, its gonna get messy in Europe very soon, just what Putin counting on.

I'm connected to an ordinary Russian, second hand, and what you say is correct. Russians have been subjected to generations of almost unopposed propaganda, remember. Their view is that Gorbachev just peed away the Soviet Union of states, when in fact there was never any such thing, only a Russian empire of resentful members. When Gorbachev took the reins the Russian economy was in a vertical fall, and all the member states on the verge of revolt. He just had the sense to talk to the West, and point out that there was no point in spending billions annually, just so we could kill each other ten times over. Why not just try to get along somehow instead?

Very sad that the bloke, or at least the less dangerous world that he had a part in, are remembered in such grotesquely inaccurate ways.

well said, good thoughts. I just can’t understand why the younger generation likes the USSR so much if they were already born under Russia.

Majority of people actually voted for preservation of USSR in referendum of 1991 (113 million according to wiki with 32 million against), so no just "rednecks" in outbacks.

Why, because its nostalgia for "good old times" and sense of lose of power, and nobody like to lose power. There is similar nostalgia for Yugoslavia among many (especially older) here in Croatia. Not to mention a lot of admiration for old Habsburg Austria in lot of Central and Eastern Europe, despite being fricking empire whose only interest in subject people was to use us as foot soldiers in their endless wars.
