er - they probably have more concept of OPSEC than anyone else

getting the Ukrainians into the habit of doing that (hitting things based on social media "mistakes") would be a really easy way of getting them to mistakenly hit orphanages, hospitals, schools etc thinking that they are military targets
I’m sure they correlated intel from other sources before launching the strike. INTEL is INTEL - simply a piece in the jigsaw, once they have a few pieces that fit then they are in a position to act.

You’re not taking into account the sheer wealth and diverse forms of intel the Ukes are receiving. A picture on social media with a street address could have been the final piece in the puzzle.

I respectively doubt this, honestly. They let many of their front line troops head into Ukraine with their mobiles, which is an absolute faux pas.

They used other insecure communications, and there's quite a substantial number of Russian soldiers undertaking looting of technological devices.

Now this is only describing elements of the Russian system rather than it in its entirety, but it's enough.

Isn't a Uke the receiver in martial arts (aikido)?

The Ukrainians could be striking Crimea or the Russians may be, once again, showing their poor standard of handling. Each could be likely.
What I find hard to believe, is that it's just the Russians effing up. The 'ukes' have the same Red Army heritage, so they're all scruffs right?

Yes and no. Since 2014, the Ukrainians have been supported heavily in terms of training from western nations, which has made a huge difference.

Transformational may be a bit of an overstatement, however it’s certainly played a part in the efficiency of their troops and general soldiering.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of the incident.

Since 2015 Ukrainian armed forces have been trained by “Western” forces. Their officer cadre is trained at Sandhurst.

Also they have adopted Western military philosophy munged with their own asymmetrical warfare tactics they’ve developed themselves.

Meanwhile Russia is still stuck using cold war tactics. (Pin enemy in place with massed artillery and then advance slowly with armour to capture ground). TBH they’re not even very good at this, as they seem to let their tanks and apc’s wander about aimlessly without infantry support.

I’m guessing from this words that have never met any Ukrainian people mate ?

They are a fiercely proud people and the vast majority despised being part of the former Soviet Union.

They might have been conscripted/served ‘National service’ in the then Red Army but, they were always and always will be Ukrainian first, second and last.

A lot of the bitterness from events like Holodomor, their return post the German retreat and the mess like Chernobyl.

I have now at the school of my children. Didn't meet any soldiers though.
I was just lampooning @Mutzo Nutzo a little bit. I obviously didn't mean to call the Ukrainian people that.

A lot of bitterness between the Poles and Ukrainians too but that seems to be forgotten. For now.
