….and the Conservative Manifesto will be launched on the promise of ‘tax cuts’

An easy reposte for Labour; ‘with tax levels at the highest they’ve been for 70 years the Tory’s are promising to give back a bit that they’ve taken off you. Buying votes when the electorate is concerned about how long they have to wait for an ambulance and sit on a trolley in a hospital corridor.’

Tbh I'm not sure how much wiggle room Labour will have. The Tories have messed things up so much I can see it being a painful couple of years for tax payers. There is complete denial on fringes of the financial mess we are in.

And the people that made the mess bleating "We told you" from the sidelines acting like they've done nothing wrong

With a section of the public and forum members here who anoint themselves "socialist" lapping it up.

Good post Eggs 👏

I had the pleasure of staying in a hospital corridor for a short period last year. Was a horrible experience and felt you had all eyes on you with no space and no ability to rest as constant activity around you.

It was a real eye opener as it looked like some had been there a long time 😢 the staff where excellent but you could see how stretched they are.

I would happily pay more tax to help ease the NHS.

It was obvious when Conservatives start talking about cutting tax the approach would be to target the most vulnerable to pay for it, it's the Conservative way. So it will be Personal Independent payments and such like.

"Ending no-fault evictions"...

ha ha, wasn't that in the last Tory manifesto!? They ended up leaving it on the shelf because it would be against their many landlord MPs interests.

If John McDonnell had said he’d address the spending black hole by just simply ‘growing the economy’ he’d be laughed out of every interview he had.

It’s easy mode at the moment, but looking toward what has just happened in Europe I hope Starmer fully understands how much damage he can cause to the social fabric of our society if he fails to deliver any substantial change.

I wouldn't happily pay more tax unless there's wage rises and a reduction in bills.

I especially wouldn't like to pay more council tax which is the biggest rip off in this country.

Any government coming in absolutely can not add to the financial burden of working people.
This does feel like the challenge whoever the next government faces. We're in a position at the moment where taxes are already the highest in 80 years or so, and despite the government running a quite considerable deficit, public services aren't in a good way. There's an awful lot of expectation being put on things like planning reform to stimulate growth, but planning reform is notoriously tricky to achieve, and even if it is achieved, are there shovel-ready projects? I mean I read the other day that building on a few % of greenbelt could allow something like a million new homes, all within touching distance of a train station. It seems logical, but actually delivering that. Good luck.

Correct. Imagine him and Corbyn with a 5 bullet point plan and the reaction of the media to it...

Starmer's lot are being waived through because the media and their corporate owners know they;ll carry out the rest of the official Tory Party austerity programme.

They'll be utterly detested in 18 months time or less. Guaranteed.

It's possible to raise taxes without putting the burden on working people

Of course, it depends on who or what is taxed.

It is also possible to improve public services without raising taxes though.

Biggest issue we have in this country is our high taxation with very little to show for it.

This can't continue. We have to find ways to improve our public services without taking more money out the pocket of working people.

Labour are making a start with their VAT on private schools and windfall tax on energy companies but more can be done and it doesn't all come from taxes.

I do love this austerity line. The government has run a budget surplus twice in the past 25 years.

Me too, I had a similar experience a while back. In a wheel chair for ages in a corridor then in the open A&E on a trolley all night. The treatment was fine as were the staff but it was really uncomfortable with little to no chance of sleep.

“ You can’t expect Scandinavian levels of treatment on USA levels of taxation”.

Wonder how much more money that will give to Sunak and his wife ? That's what Starmer and Co should be pointing out to the electorate, not the £20/ 30 pound a month that the ordinary working person will get and for a lot of people sone of that 20 or 30 will get eaten up as you go over the £50,000 mark. Give with one hand take back with two, the Tory motto.

If only we had someone around here that had been pushing for the vote green ideation, so they could pass comment on such an earth shattering about face from a former green leader no less as "only way to get rid of the tories".
