There was one of them party political broadcasts just now on the tv by the Tory party … it was based solely on the lie that labour will put up everyone’s tax bill by £2094 or whatever over the next 4 years…. Now this has already been debunked by everyone… how are they allowed to continue this lie ?

Boundary changes have added extra interest for me. We used to be in a constituency where Douglas Ross, Scottish Conservatives Leader was the MP. They changed the boundary and our new constituency was Tory at the last election, think farming, fishing semi-rural. The MP at the last election , David Duguid, became seriously ill a few months ago, but still wanted to stand and fight for his seat . About a week ago , against his will, he was deselected by whatever Tory committee makes these decisions. Wow! Who would the Tories select instead.

Step forward Douglas Ross, who for the past few years has been a MP, MSP and leader of Scottish Tories . A SFA paid assistant referee as well , but park that. When he became a MSP he said he would continue as a MP until the next General Election and then stand down . Stabbing his fellow Tory , David Duguid , in the back and pinching his constituency has not gone down well at all levels. Reneging on his promise to quit being an MP has upset his fellow Tory MSPs, as it shows lack of commitment to the Scottish Parliament. Today he announced he was ceasing to be Tory leader in Scotland come 5th July , and hedged his bets by saying if elected as a MP he would go to Westminister and cease to be a MSP. If he loses on July 4th he’ll continue as a MSP. It’s been quite a story to watch unfold! The polls , predictions after boundary changes had the seat as a Tory hold a week or so ago , now at best it’s a marginal , with a three way fight with SNP and Labour. Interesting stuff!

Here's a question as I know nothing about Scottish politics (despite currently working extremely remotely for a firm based in Edinburgh) - do the Tory MSPs support diminishing the power of, or dissolving entirely the Scottish government? It always seems like the Tories want to strip as many devolved powers back to Westminster as they can and I've seen conservative pundits call the regional administrations one of New Labour's greatest mistakes.

I honestly don’t have that depth of understanding of Tory policy. Devolved matters are those areas where the UK Parliament has devolved legislative powers to Scotland , Wales , N Ireland. eg Education . They’d be pretty foolish to try to diminish or dissolve any of those powers either in Uk or Scottish Parliaments . “ greatest mistakes” ?, well they would say that wouldn’t they , springs to mind , they haven’t been in powers in Scotland and Wales since devolution so they’re always in opposition reacting to SNP or Labour policies.

Personally, I'd be prepared to pay more if it meant preserving public services. I'm annoyed that council tax for instance has been frozen in our part of the world for years while local amenities deteriorate.
But then I'm not a "hard-working young family".

….and the Conservative Manifesto will be launched on the promise of ‘tax cuts’

An easy reposte for Labour; ‘with tax levels at the highest they’ve been for 70 years the Tory’s are promising to give back a bit that they’ve taken off you. Buying votes when the electorate is concerned about how long they have to wait for an ambulance and sit on a trolley in a hospital corridor.’

Good post Eggs 👏

I had the pleasure of staying in a hospital corridor for a short period last year. Was a horrible experience and felt you had all eyes on you with no space and no ability to rest as constant activity around you.

It was a real eye opener as it looked like some had been there a long time 😢 the staff where excellent but you could see how stretched they are.

I would happily pay more tax to help ease the NHS.
