What annoys me is that people who didn't have to do something like this, and benefitted from the fact they didn't have to, are now going to make others do it without a care for how it will effect them
I would say it's a fair point, however I think the opposing argument would be that, in the name of progression, sometimes we have to make changes to what we do.

I'm not talking specifically about national service, but rather there's been changes imposed on a new generation by an older one for what were the right reasons.

Those changes do usually revolve around older generations complaining about something being brought in to make younger peoples lives better because they never had it and seemingly want others to suffer.

Student debt relief springs to mind.

I wouldn't be too sure of that.
yeah the silent Tory thing is definitely very real. Or there may be a hung parliament but can’t see any of the other parties going into a coalition with them bar the DUP and they will have difficulties at the ballot box for obvious reasons.

I wanted to address this point earlier. The Tory voting coalition is collapsing to their core vote - a segment of the electorate that is (generally) white, in their late 50s plus and who live in smaller towns or villages that are miles away from the sort of industry or businesses that attract workers (and so bring in diversity). They're often churchgoers and prefer to place their trust in that shrinking community, and they hang around in their small local pubs that aren't welcoming to strangers. Their idea of ethnic cuisine is a Tikka Masala on a Friday night. They never travel to London any more, or any other big cities, for fear of the "no-go areas" they hear about. They aren't members of any social groups online though beyond Facebook groups for their family or their golf clubs, and they've likely not spoken recently to anyone under 30 who wasn't a grandchild, or someone serving them in a shop or cafe.

But it's the Teens we need to get out of their social bubbles!
I think you've just described @orchard

So, when Labour gets in how long before everything is rosy again?

I mean, they can't blame the Tories forever, can they?
Whoever forms the next Government will have a daunting task. Practically every public service is in a much worse state compared to 15 years ago, and even under the best possible circumstances, it will take more than one term to undo the long term damage. The fact that both main parties refuse to explain the harm that Brexit is causing to the economy doesn't fill me with optimism.
