To stay competitive in the Premier League while playing in the Europa League or the other thing would mean spending a fair bit more than 100 million and I have doubts that our owners would be willing to spend that. But as you say,one game at a time.

Moyes doesn't do early business and he won't like 90% of the players again and we'll gasp at everyone around us buying first team players for 10-2mm or so while we recite the usual "there's just no deals to be had" mantra.

I agree though, there should be a way to spend and invest smartly/better. Ideally we can try to offload some players too - i.e. get a proper LB and RB, sell Myko and Patterson to whoever come knocking first; negotiate the Grealish deal as he's injured and all that, try to find loans for backups (like this George fella really), stuff like that, but I have no confidence for that personally.

Hopefully with the new ownership they will bring in the business savvy people who can spend and invest better.

For us? Very far from pretty doable.

I don't think he's worth 50 at all but as I said in the post, rumoured. 20 is a good price for George, it's just when you add it to the 50 it becomes a lot, and we're still one of the few teams that have to be PSR compliant.

So, say we get Grealish for 30, 20 for George - 50 from the get-go. We need 2 first team starters (WBs), likely 20-30 each, a backup striker and at least 1 more near-starting quality winger needed, say 20 again. So somewhere between 110-140m to spend. No chance in fresh hell we are allowed to do that or even do that.

Outgoings will be minimal - Patterson, Mykolenko won't fetch high prices, neither will Beto. McNeil I fear Moyes will like for some reason and will want him and also no one wants him too, so it's a hard bargain to recoup any money there too.

Now if we somehow get Europe this season, we'd need at least 3-4 players on top of those mentioned otherwise we'll go backwards in both competitions due to fixture congestion. So we'll need, what, 150-200m to be spent in one summer? Not a chance.

We've also got arl arse Moyes who will shut down most suggestions apparently, so it's a bigger issue overall - it won't matter if our suits are savvy if the buck stops at Moyes who wants unicorn players who don't exist - he doesn't want/play youth, but from a business point of view developing youth is the best option.
 
Whenever ive seen him, hes been the standout on the pitch (along with Dewsbury Hall). Albeit that sample size is the Conference League so the likes of Astana, Noah & Shamrock Rovers.

But Dewsbury Hall was decent and he has been for us... that is all

Free transfers, loans all exist. Not every player needs to be 20M +

Wilson for example could be someone that is brought in for nothing and immediately upgrades the squad. Obviously example but you get the point.

Not denying we’ll have to spend to improve, but using it as an excuse to actively not want European football is so backwards (not saying you’re suggesting this). Without it eventually, we’ll be forced to sell Ndiaye who’ll want away, maybe Branthwaite, how content with KDH be?Then we’re back to square one. You have to go for it when you get a chance and despite what people think, we have a chance.

Anyway, we’re getting some of that summer spend boxed off with George now, which on paper seems a good investment

I dont think anyone is buying grealish for 50m. Im sure it was a random rumour that got rubbished fairlysoon after it came out.

I think we'll get him on loan again and we'll pay a fee if we sign him when hes out of contract. Ala the barry loan deal

Need to spend 100m just to survive in the PL now a days.

Well need to spend 200m in the summer if we get Europe.

Thats what worries me about TFG they dont seem like the type of owner to want to put money into the club
