2025/26 Tyler Dibling

Our best xG in like the last 20 years was Moyes final year. It was better than our xG under Martinez. Martinez just lucked out that Lukaku was sensational at finishing for us and was willing to use us as a stepping stone
Slightly harsh on Martinez as he gave Barkley his chance to flourish which Moyes didn't so it wasn’t just about Lukaku

Moyes sent Barkley out on loan to the championship in his final season which is fairly common practice for younger players to prepare them.

A bit like with Armstrong.

Whilst I do think Moyes could show more faith in some youngsters like Dibling, surely there’s an element of Martinez getting a player in Barkley who had developed more because of that opportunity. A bit like Armstrong is now.

And to be fair to Moyes. We got to 63 points that season, which would reflect having a functioning midfield so why gamble with an unproven kid when what you have is working. We had Anichebe up top for a lot of that, imagine it had been Lukaku.

…..Moyes is on record as not trusting Barkley to do what was asked. Martinez recognised the same so gave Barkley no responsibility without the ball.

I agree with your post except Barkleys loan wasn't a success because I seem to remember the dinosaur Warnock wouldn't play him either

He made 13 appearances for them in the first half of the season, playing over 1000 minutes and getting 4 goals. We then recalled him and sent him on loan to Leeds for a month.

Its a big move for the lad and apparently its taking him time to adjust and settle (not that he's not settling) i.e. leaving the South West.

Dudes 19, from a human point of view lets give him a bit of time and support.
Due diligence lacking here. If he was homesick in London, then all the way to the freezing dark oop north was always going to finish him

Players are human mate, i didn't say he's homesick or not settling, i said its taking him time to settle in terms of change, upheaval & new environment etc, its a big move for a 19 year old as a human, sometimes its good management to support that adjustment and give it the time and space, if we do that he will settle here.

Lots of players take time to adjust and settle - as we are finding, particularly the younger ones.

I think a lot of people sometimes forget how young some of these players are and the pressure that comes from playing for big premier league club.

Same goes for Barry, I know he’s 22, but not sure at 22 I could carry the weight of trying to lead the line for a premier league club. Especially where there is a hyper focus on a lack of goals.

But yeah 19 is really young. Big price tag, big move - a lot of deal with.

There was a piece that mentioned him not settling at Chelsea because he missed Southampton. Big red flag to drag him to Merseyside at his age. Typical of our dodgy recruitment team. Barry looks similar, like a lost sheep.

Thing is,he isn't and never has been a " lead the line" player. Not his fault but totally unsuitable for our set up.

Agree with this. However, the problem isn't that Dibling might need time to settle, or Aznou might need to be built up, or Barry might be a bit raw, or Alcaraz might need to become more disciplined... It's that ALL of them need time for one reason or another. That wasn't a tenable transfer strategy when we needed players for the here and now - not the future. The likes of Kinnear will be judged more on commerical matters than he will on football results. The same cannot be said for Moyes. This is one reason why he is now coming under serious pressure.

For me he hasn't had enough opportunities to be properly assessed and as an incredibly young player he's going to require some time to fully acclimate (mentally and as a pro footballer) , also if moyes wants to see him thrive you have to start providing consistent chances to develop on the pitch, putting him on one half then not playing him until a game or two later, subbed on at the 80th minute won't benefit him.
