2025/26 Tyler Dibling

Disastrous? I could understand disappointing but disastrous seems excessive, especially when we've had some true summer debacles like the one when we got 3 number tens (one of them klassen) and sandro. There are some players who can still come good
He has played about 7 minutes.

Of course he can still come good. But that becomes less likely with each passing week where he remains glued to our bench - and it doesn't excuse the outrageous financial outlay we decided to spend on him last summer when we could barely field a team. We have had zero return on that investment. I am no fan of Moyes and don't see him as the ideal manager to bring on youth, but whisper it: maybe it's the player...

When I say disaster, I am talking about impact. On those terms, there is no argument here: they have been disastrous. But your point about Moyes's role in this is a very important one. I don't believe for a minute that he is a suitable manager for a club that is intentionally buying players for the future. What amazes me, however, is how could "buying for the future" be a priority for us when we didn't have enough players to put out a team last June? Aznou was a longer term punt, for sure, but at his price that is acceptable. Dibling? No. Not at that money. While he was always going to be "one for the future", it is a dereliction of financial duty to buy him for the huge money he cost - a massive chunk of our total budget - and not expect that he would have a serious role to play this season.

I am not looking forward to this summer's window if the same people are making the calls...
I see your point but we can only see how it all plays out.

It’s one of our strangest ever transfers is Tyler Dibling.
We’re not known for big outlays and are generally extremely cautious in the market. We’re not the kind of club to take a punt, especially on a young kid. To scrap for him all close season and finally throw a big part of our kitty at Southampton nearing the end of the window when we clearly needed bodies was quite bizarre behaviour. You have to ask what drove this signing…..a clever agent, a weak DoF, a manager trying to flex his muscles or a really poor transfer committee.
Will he get his chance and come good - who knows, but we need to do something with him to start getting a return.

Football is a business, and where we are currently in the pecking order, if we buy young players we need to play them in order to maintain or increase their value. We paid £35 million up front for Dibling, and his current value (what a club would actually pay for him) is probably about £15 million. That is a massive loss, and the manager needs to own that. I understand that he doesn't really care, and he picks who he wants, but he has to understand the ramifications of that, which is £20 million less for him to spend in the summer.

Those stats are a laugh if they're stretching his 5 minutes cameos as representative of over 90 minutes.
It's not stretching per se, more just being like 'what does he do when he actually gets on the pitch'.

Sub effects are really important to take into account though. But at least in Diblings case, 270 of his 350 minutes have come from either full halves or full games, so the majority is 'normal' minutes.

Again it's way too small a sample size to draw conclusions about him as a player, but at the very least, when he gets on the pitch, he does some stuff you'd want him to be doing

Which begs the question...

...why has he not been used more?

He cares about money and being able to ‘compete in the market’ when it suits him though - ie when he’s complaining he hast got enough money.

It doesn't really tbh, general rule of thumb is that under 600min then the sample size is just not enough to judge anything, the data just isn't there. What you are seeing is someone who has shown the odd flash but not enough which is why he isn't playing basically.

I mean it is down to Moyes. Moyes doesn't play him. You can debate whether that's right or not, but it's definitely down to Moyes.

…ha, ha, I say it’s down to the player to earn game time. It’s not a complicated situation, we can criticise the Manager for his part in acquiring the player but ultimately Dibling is not impressing enough to be involved.

In two games he started he was dragged off at half-time. We all want him to be the real deal, especially given the price but he’s clearly disappointed.

Fans who want him to play will be the same ones who blame the Manager if it doesn’t work out. After a disappointing performance, one renowned poster said Moyes tells his players not to go near Dibling 😄, you couldn’t write the script.

I just hope the penny drops with the lad, if he’s the talent posters think he is then he’ll force his way into this team but it is up to him. No excuses.

I think what this will do is put off any promising youngsters wanting to come to Everton as long as Moyes is here, yes he has played Armstrong because his mate Grealish is injured.

players like Armstrong will not get a chance next season once Grealish is fit.

Players who all played well last time they played
Aznou
Patterson
Rohl

not been seen since

….absolute nonsense.

Young professionals will jump at the chance to come here but ultimately they know they’re have to force their way into the team. I wouldn’t rule Rohl out, I suspect they like what they see of him and Gueye won’t be around forever. Aznou is a low risk punt, clearly a long way from starting games but another I wouldn’t totally dismiss.

Patterson is a lucky lad to have got his move but he’s been found out at this level. It happens.

Armstrong, O’Brien, Garner, Iroegbunam all brought into the side as youngsters and playing a significant part.

….  simple, because he’s not earned more game time. Every wide player in the squad is ahead of him in the pecking order and that’s not down to Moyes.
People keep acting like we don't have 5 whole substitutions available every game. No one's calling for him to start. But if the manager can't balance giving players like Dibling, Röhl, and Aznou (even George!) any minutes at all while also picking up points, he shouldn't be the manager at the start of a long term rebuild. It's terrible for the players, it's a terrible use of our limited money/resources and it's terrible for our future recruitment.
