2025/26 Tyler Dibling

People keep acting like we don't have 5 whole substitutions available every game. No one's calling for him to start. But if the manager can't balance giving players like Dibling, Röhl, and Aznou (even George!) any minutes at all while also picking up points, he shouldn't be the manager at the start of a long term rebuild. It's terrible for the players, it's a terrible use of our limited money/resources and it's terrible for our future recruitment.

….the manager has to manage games. Not sure I’d be considering Dibling if we’re a goal up with 20mins to play.

Sounds easy, ‘just give the lad a run’, but players in wide positions are set, they’ve got the measure of their opposite number, they’ve worked opposition out with their full back. Different if we’re chasing a game but Dibling hasn’t shown anything to suggest he can come off the bench and make a difference.

That’s how the manager has to think. If we’re chasing a game, George comes on because he looks like he could positively influence it. If we’re holding onto a lead, the manager trusts Armstrong to hold on.

Only Dibling can change that situation.

Hard for a player to change the situation if the manager doesn’t fancy him. Same with O'Brien under Dyche

It doesn't really tbh, general rule of thumb is that under 600min then the sample size is just not enough to judge anything, the data just isn't there. What you are seeing is someone who has shown the odd flash but not enough which is why he isn't playing basically.

When a 19 year old shows "the odd flash" then surely you develop them with coaching and game time?

I mean it is down to Moyes. Moyes doesn't play him. You can debate whether that's right or not, but it's definitely down to Moyes.

After seeing this for all u23s you can point at it as being a major fault of Moyes.

I think what this will do is put off any promising youngsters wanting to come to Everton as long as Moyes is here, yes he has played Armstrong because his mate Grealish is injured.

players like Armstrong will not get a chance next season once Grealish is fit.

Players who all played well last time they played
Aznou
Patterson
Rohl

not been seen since

Theres no reasoning to it.

100%. You have to have the brain the size of a pea to not understand this as an Evertonian...

Which begs the question;

Who are we even discussing this with?

O'Brien is just one example. Does that mean every single player who's not being given chances is just merely being held back by a manager?

One example of many.

"a manager" youre gaslighting, he's talking about Moyes.

What? Gaslighting? I framed a simple question. Get a grip.

Seemingly the irony is lost on you that he's pointing out that Moyes gave a player a chance, so therefore should give everybody a chance.

Oh youre back to Moyes now...

...not, "a manager"

I'm really not sure what you're getting at here. It's a simple question. Moyes is "a manager"

While we're at it, can you provide me with a list of the 'many examples' of players who never made it because they were held back or treated unfairly by managers? Without conjecture?

Hard for a player to change the situation if the manager doesn’t fancy him. Same with O'Brien under Dyche

….i assume Moyes sanctioned the transfer, difficult to believe he wasn’t keen on bringing him in.

No issue with Dyche over O’Brien, I can’t blame him for not considering a 6ft 4in giant of a CB at RB. I certainly never imagined that switch and I don’t recall anybody on here suggesting it. Terrific thinking from Moyes, he’s very good at bringing these young players through.

Iroegbunam was full of praise in a recent interview, he said you know exactly what’s expected of you and you’re expected to do your job, especially not losing possession. Exactly how it should be playing at the top level.

Come on Eggs, O'Brien at right back is not terrific thinking, he's one of the worst right backs in the division, played there because our first choice is too old and injury prone and our second choice is terrible. It's a patch up caused by Moyes failing to sign a right back.

It means that some managers views are different to others so Dibling for example may flourish under a different regime. As we discussed yesterday psychology is overlooked in sport in general and a managers judgement on individual players isn't always right

Of course it isn't always right. That doesn't mean it's always wrong though.

Just to clarify mate, the post you've just quoted from me, did it leave you feeling like I was gaslighting you? Coz according to Zat, that's what I was doing.

Is Moyes getting the best out of some players? Undoubtedly. It doesn't mean his judgement is infallible though. Some players will like his methods of course especially defensive players. Maybe his judgement on other players is wrong though and his methods don't work with these players? Just a thought

No you weren't gaslighting me, it's a forum where we share opinions and naturally we'll not always agree but isn't that the beauty of debate? I'm thick skinned enough not to worry about people's critique of my opinions. Ultimately we all want the same thing and that's a successful Everton and we all have different views and visions of how that should be implemented. No-one is right or wrong in essence
