2025/26 Tyler Dibling

It doesn't change the fact that if a non Everton supporter watched replays of the games he's played and was asked to pick out the player who cost north of 30 million I'd wager he'd be one of the last picks.
We’re quite lucky then that that isn’t a yardstick for anything! Is frankly quite weird how people think of made up scenarios to judge a player.

Think it fits. He looks nothing like the player you'd pay 35 million plus for. To be totally honest he looks like an U21 who's been called into a threadbare squad who looks totally out of his depth. Not the lads fault we massively overpaid for him.
Not now. He was bought on potential, I still believe he will reach the value he was bought for and then some. We have been moaning for decades about not buying prospects. Did we overpay? How can anyone tell after half a season.

If we'd bought a £60m striker, a PL standard right back and left back last summer expectation and scrutiny of Dibling wouldn't be anything like what it is. It's not his fault the club made him their most expensive buy of the window. And he's under more pressure because we're missing key players.

Once we get a few players back then imo the onus is on Moyes to nurture his potential - if he goes back to leaving him on the bench or giving him 10 minutes at the end of games it'll be a wasted season in Dibling's development.

My comment was aimed at the bizarre transfer policy we have,we aren't in a position to wait a season or so to see if a young talent costing that amount of money progresses enough to make that type of outlay pay dividends. Man City are, Chelsea are,the RS are but to go forward we need squad players ready to go. It even appears that Moyes isn't that impressed with him.Now if we'd signed him for 15 million with add ons tied to appearances, our end of season position and England call ups that'd have made sense.

You can only judge what you see,be honest if you saw him play without knowing the background would you think he was worth anything near what we paid?

I’ll try to put it into your kind of thinking. What if I asked a total stranger, who was rational, had a modicum of intelligence, and knows about football, to judge a player on one blind viewing. They would say it’s knee jerk, short sighted, and possibly a bit daft to judge in the short Term. I think they would say, I’ll watch the team over time, and certainly judge the younger players when they’ve been given a chance to bed in, in a side that is playing well, and creating space for them to work in. If I insisted on getting a judgement out of them, I would expect them to say “grow up”.

Oh there’s plenty on here who can tell and are happy to tell you they can tell. They’ll even tell you he’s homesick, shy, depressed, not arsed and whatever other insight they think they have

Why aren't we in that position? We arent going down, we are slowly building for what will hopefully be long term success. The bigger clubs have the advantage of being, well, bigger clubs. Let us grow.

The infatuation with the fee is wild to me, it didn't stop us investing in more players, there isn't a transfer cap, we simply didnt buy more
Thats an issue for the owners to address, but Dibling didn't stop us buying a right back.

And that's what I've done, obviously the "side playing well and creating space for them to work in" part hasn't and isn't likely to be possible. My comments aren't aimed at the player. More the strange transfer policy that paid a no strings attached (apparently) fee for him. I thought when the Alcaraz deal was set up that sense had finally prevailed but then we bought Barry. You have to ask why Armstrong has looked completely at home since returning from loan and our two most expensive buys of the Summer both look lost.

“No strings attached”?? What the hell does that even mean?? 90% of transfers are like that!! About Armstrong, you answered your own question. He returned home.

Nowhere have I stated it did,I'm looking purely at the Dibling deal and why it wasn't structured. Same with Rohl, loan with an option to buy given his injury record, but we go with the daft option.
