Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

He’s unproven in the premier league having never played there. Sorry, that’s just factually correct. There would be less risk buying an equivalent player who has played in the premier league. You can give me a list as long as your arm but it doesn’t change the facts.
As I said. Neither have Messi or Zidane. So by your logic, both are unproven.

It may be factually correct to say he's not played in the PL, but that doesn't mean he's unproven. Suggesting otherwise is facile.

And they are wrong to do so. My late English teacher Mum would have zero truck with this. Much like she would explode at people using less when it should be fewer. Use does evolve over time but that is mainly because we are getting lazier as a society and influenced excessively by barely literate US sub-cultures not because the rules of grammar magically change. There are genuine grey areas in English (the Oxford comma debate for instance) but this is not one of them.
Ok mate thank you for your useful input unlike some people.

Unless this lad turns into the reincarnation of Gareth Bale, I'd be happier spending that vast amount of money (as its been suggested) on a Kubo or some other player with genuine proven ability. Should be an interesting week though, so lets see.

Imagine someone toasting the happy couple at a wedding and there was 5 of them.

The phrase "a couple of" typically means two in standard English usage. However, in informal contexts, some people use it to mean a small number, like three or occasionally four.

In the Oxford English Dictionary, "a couple of" generally means two. However, it's also commonly used informally to mean a few, which can imply a small number greater than two.

I absolutely LOVE this place sometimes.

As the numeric idiot who introduced the contentious word couple I'd like to point out it meant 42. I really think we're missing the point here. He's 19, still got games for the u21 when fit and is "worth" exactly the amount someone will pay for him not what numbers Saints burble.

Never any safe signings in this mad footy world but money wise anything under 45mill for the lad is a winner. He's not on big wages or will need signing on fees.

If he can make a great contribution this season I have no idea, though I suspect yes.

There may be a couple of other options out there.

Yes. They are unproven in the premier league since none of them played there. So what? I didn't say he was unproven generally. What's facile is arguing over a factually correct assertion because you implied a meaning that wasn't there. No need to carry on arguing. Just pay more attention going forward.

On topic, Ducker in the Telegraph yesterday said we want two CM and two wingers so Dibling and ANO. Does Grealish count as a winger? Probably. If we can get Dibling done I would prefer more pace as our second addition but even with my substantial reservations about Grealish’ form and off field habits he is certainly an upgrade in possession in Harrison, though Jack has the edge defensively.

You chimed in on a comment I made to someone else who stated he was unproven, not PL unproven, just 'unproven'.

Pay more attention going forwards.

And what did I say? He was unproven in premier league. Which is correct and a completely reasonable thing to say both factually and more generally given the number of foreign players who come here with big reputations from certain league and don't reproduce the same form here as elsewhere. Again, pay more attention.

Toffeenut mentioned the Dion lad.
