I think under Martinez we had a good team, he just wasn't a very good manager. The problem is now players like Baines and Jags are just too old. We have brought in rubbish players or players we don't need, such as Williams, the Snide, Klassen, and Siggy. You can't replace Stones with Williams, you can't replace Lukaku with Calvert Lewin. You can't rely on young players like Kenny, Lookman and Davies to play well, when they're playing alongside geriatrics. The reason why we're in this mess, is nobody know's who's running the club. Is it Moshiri, BK, Elstone, or Steve Walsh. We haven't replaced Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley that why we're in this mess.

Those league positions in Martinez's second and third season's are misleading.

We were one defeat away from a relegation scrap in that second season and a few end of season results mask how bad the majority was.

Likewise the third a few decent results at the start carried us when after Christmas we were easily in the top 3 worst sides in that league
Lol.

If you cant tell the difference between a poor run of form and the complete desolation of the post-Koman era I dont think I can explain it to you.

The OTT posters from back then know what a crisis feels like now.

Whilst we were dire at the back under Martinez, at least we had a system, tactics, and had a go (apart from when the players eventually downed tools, seems to be a common thread with our players, downing tools) we're just all over the gaff this season.

I dont remember feeling dire schooling Arsenal at The Emirates, tbh, mate!

The direness toward the end was brought about by his inability to get on top of the Everton dressing room Anarcho-Syndicalist fraternity and have them play controlled football rather than charging forward like the U.S. Cavalry, when wins turned to draws and draws turned to defeats.

Martinez needed to go, I also wasn't happy with the appointment of koeman, I don't believe those are the only two options in the world of football
Oh he defo had to go in the end. No discipline = not good enough. You cant play good winning football with players taking the piss.

For me though he was easily a more advanced coach than the cave man Moyes and that disastrous Dutchman living off his playing career.

Absolutely no question about that.

Or when Pienaar, Oviedo, Mirrallas and Barkley were playing one touch keep-ball in Utd's centre circle at OT.
Moyes or no Moyes, that was absolute domination.

I never understood the chasing of koeman, with the other names being touted and talk of new ambitions, koeman should never have been anywhere near the shortlist

Champagne football. Record Premier League points total. Media darlings. Decent runs cup competitions.

We just needed to fix the defence not sack everything off that Martinez had built. With the Mosh's millions it could have been sorted.

Plus everyone blamed Martinez for the defence.

The players were just rubbish. Baines and Jags have been done for a couple of years. Jags because he is old and Baines never fully recovered from his ankle injury. Coleman always seemed to be injured.

Mori wasn't a great buy but compared to Keane and Williams the guy is Baresi.

it hasn't come across how I meant it to, but I was sort of pointing towards the end of Martinez's tenure with us dave with my 'players downing tools bit.'

For sure.

Despite the descent into farce that was the last couple of months, the Martinez era is already looking like a lost Golden Age.

How very different EFC might look today if Lukaku had sank those penalties when we were 2-0 up versus Hammers and again at Wembley in the early days of the Moshiri era.

Here, @davek ...

Imagine the heads exploding on here next summer if we are preparing for life in the Championship and Roberto can pick almost any job in world football on the back of winning the World Cup :hayee:

Bottom line and with hindsight....I wish Roberto had been given a chance the next season and Moonhead had never darkened our doors.

EFF and Robero.....almost awesome together.;)

We needed a seamless takeover in playing style when Martinez left. A similar method that suited the players we'd assembled AND someone who could sort out the back four from set pieces especially.

Moshiri is a clueless bean counter.
