since moshiri took over we:-

1. sold our best ever prem striker;
2. shunned a barca winger;
3. got rid of one of the best ball playing defenders in the country;
4. on the verge of losing our talismanic midfielder barkley for nothing

on the plus side we signed a 32 year old ageing wayne rooney with no legs

no wonder we are in a relegation battle

Don't forget how low we all felt after that 3-0 hammering at Sunderland the night before he got the boot. 99% of us were all utterly desperate for him to go in the end. I think as football fans it's easy to romanticise the past, I do it all the time and have been doing it again with Moyes. There's a bit of me that thinks we should have gone back to him and given him until the end of the season and a chance to rebuild his career (if we're going to end up with Big Sam or Pulis anyway, might as well have done that). But things were heading south under Martinez no doubt. However, talking to @Jim Keoghan for the pod the other week, Jim said that he spoke with Martinez for his book, Martinez was adamant that with another transfer window he would have been able to kick us on. I'm not too sure, but it was all ideology with 'Berto, the man could have kept his job if he'd have just changed slightly and made us a little bit harder to beat. Regardless, I liked him so much and wanted it to work. He's probably a little smug now because he's going to win the World Cup and we've gone the other way.

I think our lack of intensity started with martinez second season. It has become instilled in us and koeman or unsworth cant change or remove it. Watching a team like huddersfield last night after us was watching 2 completely different levels of intensity. Their desire to win the ball back as a team , to stop crosses to win tackles makes us look like a bag of marshmallows.

But it started with martinez. Having our players stand 5 yards off the opponents.

lollollol

Gotta love the revisionism. Martinez was taking us directly to where we are now.

At least we rolled the dice and tried something different.

I think you're overstating how bad it was :D

He had a limited squad yet we went toe to toe with everyone in the league. The defence needed to be overhauled completely but we were nowhere near as bad as we are now. If we'd have given him cash for a new defence we'd have been up there now.

We're bad now because we had a shocking transfer window this summer, selling our best player and replacing him with players who aren't up to standard. We were bad under Martinez because he completely disregarded the need to organise a defence.

Maybe because we had better players
But Martinez wasn't using them well. The reason we are turd now is largely at the door of messers Walsh, Koeman, Mosh and Kenwright.

I wish we could go back to the good old days when we weren't going backwards oh ang on

Toe to toe with Sunderland away - 3-0 defeat! lol
