I wish we could go back to the good old days when we weren't going backwards oh ang on

You're misquoting statistics there matey. I'm sure with a rounding error the goals scored was the same in the 3rd season as the 1st. Add in Martinez himself was screaming for cash for a new defence and you're fixed.

Dis’ll be fun

No reason not to have fun, another depressing thread, never mind turning back the clock we've got to beat the clock.

Voted no. It was constantly picking Alcaraz and Howard and the absolute crap that came out of his mouth after the match that did it for me.

No mate. He continued playing Tim Howard out of sheer stubbornness when he hadn't saved a shot for 2 years, our defensive frailties were completely down to Martinez.

He spent £9m on Funes Mori, who has the positional sense of Jon Joe Kenny.

He brought in Alcaraz who was that iteration's Cuco Martina

He wanted to bring Williams in. Make of that what you will.

We are where we are because two successive managers have bought players they wanted rather than needed.

Couldnt be bothered with the boring things like signing reserve left backs and centre backs to bring into the squad. 3 of our 4 back 4 are Moyes signings.

Just look at our post-Moyes recruitment:

Goalkeepers
Pickford
Robles
Steklenberg

Defenders
Alcaraz
Williams
Galloway
Funes Mori
Keane

Holgate
Martina

Midfielders
McCarthy
McGeady
Barry
Besic
Lennon
Cleverly
Deulofeu
Bolasie
Gana
Schneiderlin

Vlasic
Sigurdsson
Klaassen

Henry

Forwards
Kone
Lukaku

Eto'o
Lookman
Niasse
Sandro

£320m spent post-Moyes and most of it is rubbish.

The ones in bold are those who were signed as first team players expected to go straight into the first team and give at least 2-3 years service.
The rest are prospects, cover or stop gaps.

I see one hit in Lukaku, then only really Barry who did well for us.

We should have been signing Baines/Jags/Distin replacements 2-3 years ago. Instead we sold Stones and replaced him with Williams.

We are now in the perfect storm where all the squad weaknesses have been exposed at the same time. No defenders, unbalanced midfield and no attackers.

since moshiri took over we:-

1. sold our best ever prem striker;
2. shunned a barca winger;
3. got rid of one of the best ball playing defenders in the country;
4. on the verge of losing our talismanic midfielder barkley for nothing

on the plus side we signed a 32 year old ageing wayne rooney with no legs

no wonder we are in a relegation battle

And kept a lot of the defence the same!

Those league positions in Martinez's second and third season's are misleading.

We were one defeat away from a relegation scrap in that second season and a few end of season results mask how bad the majority was.

Likewise the third a few decent results at the start carried us when after Christmas we were easily in the top 3 worst sides in that league
