6,000 now being detained "The cleansing operation is continuing" says the justice minister in Turkey, nice choice of word there from the justice minister.
It's easy to laugh when you're 10,000 miles away, surrounded by water, and have the world's most expensive military in history defending you, but yeah you're right.
The more I read about what's been happening in Turkey over the past decade the more I, um, "appreciate" the conspiracy theory about this being a false flag operation so Erdogan can further consolidate his power.
You can come and live at ours mate Souvlaki and Jam Albums and a lovely Bulgarian mini community literally on my door step.Home from home. And Bulgaria![]()
Hahaha, boss that. I've decided I'm going back soon enough anyway, maybe forever, maybe not. I'll keep the offer in mind though. You can come and live at ours mate Souvlaki and Jam Albums and a lovely Bulgarian min community literally on my door step.Home from home.

The missus has........ she gave her mountain bike to one of the kids...... it was too big for him...... and he broke his knackers trying to get on it. He has grown up now and can ride it.......... however .....he has a really high pitched voice lolHahaha, boss that. I've decided I'm going back soon enough anyway, maybe forever, maybe not. Have you learned any Bulgarian then? lol
Seems there's a massive news event with dozens or even hundreds dying every few weeks...I'm honestly losing track.
To think that a year ago everyone was boring off over Greece's financial crisis, a year before that we were still optimistic about the Arab Spring heralding secular progression.
Now, things are heading in a direction not many feel very optimistic about, even close to home.
Something big is on the way, I fear.
Still less people dying from violence than at any other point in human history. The difference is that we're now hyper aware of it.
Doesn't make it okay, but perspective is important.

I think we really are experiencing more bad stuff than in recent history.
I'd agree in principle due to the internet/insta-news age and how war-happy older societies were, tho' where do you have that info from and how do you define "any other point in human history"? We have less civilians dying (via mass-murder) in Europe/US now than in the 90's? 80's? Even the 00's?
Okay, the Serb/Bosnian war was a terrible event which pushed up the stats of its era. I'd agree most of us felt detached from that at the time due firstly to the Eastern Bloc still being seen as non-Western and secondly it (largely) was before the internet age.
Our perception filter is biased towards Western societies, including Turkey: the 'bridge' to the West. This means when we perceive more civilian deaths in more separate events than usual in Western societies, we perceive we're regressing ('world's going to shyte' etc).
I don't think we can entirely blame our internet access for us perceiving more bad stuff...I think we really are experiencing more bad stuff than in recent history.
Indeed. I am reliably informed that even though Erdoğan is a real 'motherless child' of a man, a false flag coup is probably slightly beyond him.The burning of the Reichstag comes to mind.......

I don't have numbers for just the west or the past year or two, but the trend is there.
http://www.start.umd.edu/gtd/search...success=yes&casualties_type=b&casualties_max=your graph garrick lad:
1) shows deaths from recognised conflicts & genocide events, not random murder sprees
2) it stops listing civvy deaths after year 2000.
3) military deaths are on the up after 2000, see the blue spike upwards
4) this includes worldwide figures, but our perception is more localised (as described earlier)
5) this graph goes back to the year 1400 when we're talking our history, during our lives...no one cares what happened 500 years ago. Of course we care more for what happened during WW2, but none of us were alive back so its effect on us is minimal.
I'd like to see stats on civilian deaths due to murder in Western countries in yearly stretches from 1980 to 2016. I believe we'll see a different trend to the lines from your graph.
