I was really confused when Erdogan referenced orders coming from Pennsylvania in one of his speeches, not knowing at the time who Gulen was or that he was holing himself up in some tiny town 90 miles outside of Philly.

Our state department has basically said "if you can prove it you can have him" and uh, yeah, then Erdogan and the Turkish PM started saying the things we're seeing now.

This should be good.

The more I read about what's been happening in Turkey over the past decade the more I, um, "appreciate" the conspiracy theory about this being a false flag operation so Erdogan can further consolidate his power.

But I hope it's all a 'ploy', as I know who they'll attack first if ANYTHING happens, as history tends to repeat itself. Our people are already in DEFCON 4 because of that, and politicians are saying we need to take actions and strenghten borders etc.

I also live not far from the Turkish border.

Perhaps when it was in the initial stages when it was all just posturing and troops moving around but to actually bomb parliment when his ministers were in session seems a touch extreme but then I've never been a huge believer in conspiracy theories.

TBF burning down the Reichstag building was pretty extreme too. Erdogan has been pushing for arresting and prosecuting journalists and other critics of his regime. If it wasn't a false flag, and it is entirely possible that it wasn't, then it has come at a very useful time for his government. It seems like he will use the coup to push through some constitutional reforms which he wasn't able to prior, including reintroducing the death penalty.

I feel for ya mate. The only solace I can offer is that I would sincerely hope that in NATO on NATO war we'd stand against the aggressor.

Well, America already has a LOT of army bases (several near my hometown/the border, how odd is that eh? Pretty cool to drive around and see humvee's with the American flag I guess), so if he gets elected then [Poor language removed] WILL hit the fan, in all aspects, everywhere.

Borders with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Georgia the Meditrerrinean and the Black Sea. Russia and China will gladly spend all the monies to put a military base or 2 there.
