Barry and Gibson -- playmakers ?

The problem with that side (which looks likely to be a first 11) is the lack of any height other than distin and lukaku

ok so difference in height is we have lukkaku instead of jelavich, barry & barkley instead of osman o=& gibson, and felli out for mccarthy, hardly downsized as for 3 out of 4 changes we have a bigger player in the spot

Simple question for you, is the starting 11 for the rest of this season now stronger than it was under Moyes at the end of last?

Answer and if everyones fit;

Keeper -- same
Defence -- same
Midfield -- lost Fellaini and replaced with McCarthy = weaker
Attack -- Lukaku undeniably MUCH stronger

The squad in fact has much more depth. So whichever way you look at it we look stronger at a squad.


However in a year

Kone will show to be an overpriced donkey
Alcaraz may or may not have a few games as one of 6 centre backs
Barry hopefully wont hinder lundstrams development whilst being paid 100k a week (?!?)
Jelavic value will keep going down
Osman will be finished
Howard will be a year older so hopefully Robles has the quality
Deulofeu / Barry /Lukaku will be off
Distin will be 37 years old and we have no other left sided centre backs
Hibbert will be getting on
Pienaar will be getting on


The ONLY hope I had for this window was to sign QUALITY young players with high potential. We signed James McCarthy who was obviously the first choice, other than him I cant see any value beyond this season.

We might have at least looked at him, but if he's gone to QPR I would hazard a guess that massive wages were the deciding factor.

I'd only see Lukaku for Jelavic and McCarthy for Fellaini if all are fit to be honest....Barry shouldn't be in the 11 when Gibson is fit and Barkley is currently playing alongside not instead of Osman.

So unless were bringing Lukaku to defend corners leaving no one as a get out option then Fellaini for MCCarthy in height terms.

Not playmaking as such, spreading passes etc, distribution to the wings I think it could work. And I see your point but were reasonably good on set pieces and I don't believe we'll concede too many.

I think Fellaini was a key in us being good at defending set pieces...

Bqarkley is 6'2 yanno, mccarthy and mirrales both 5'11, barry over 6 foot, coleman 5'10, hardly a bunch of midgets, seems like you just keep changing what your issue is, we get it you didnt want martinez as manager, and you wanna see the negative in anything he does, but get a grip mate

Not at all, I was initially very excited about him coming in but would have preferred someone else.

Take out Fellaini and replace with McCarthy in the first eleven and we take a big hit on set pieces I think....Lukaku should be kept up top rather than be given set piece duties but I think we'll have 11 in the box.

One thing that people are failing to realise is that now McCarthy has another mentor (Barry) added to the squad to add to his game, add to his experience and get the grips of game. Fellaini certainly wasn't going to be the man to give him the experience he needs, nor would I think Neville would be able to do either if he was still playing a part of our Midfield. We have a much needed striker with flair and the ability to cut defenses wide open (someone for Mirallas, Deulofeu, Pienaar, Gibson, McCarthy to feed to) and two solid midfielders to raise the competition and improve our game.

We made three signings in the three crucial areas we needed, I wouldn't be so approving of Barry if McCarthy wasn't coming along with him.

Every player on the pitch has to compete for their spot now, he made it obvious he was trying to get players to push themselves and realise what it is to compete for your spot when he signed Robles and Deulofeu, something Moyes, really never did..

anyway, I hope this made sense, I just did an all nighter all the way over here in Australia for this window and i'm glad I haven't regretted it.

Also Fellaini wasn't going to continue developing and improving his game with us so off loading him for a youngster keen to learn the trade of the game and bust his ass for us every game is indeed a worthy swap for me.. Attitude is important, Passion is everything.

For me personally, the fees we got for Fellaini and Anichebe were good. For Anichebe amazing in fact.

I'd have liked to see Martinez shift out Heitinga, Gueye, Jelavic but there we are....

Also, Kone signing now just seems ridiculous....

In short, happy with the fees in....shocked at the short termism of the loans + poor signings other than perhaps McCarthy.

well assuming its a like for like then jela was almost always in our box defending so yeah see it likely that lukkaku will be left back often too, disagree about barry, for one gibbo isnt fit all that often and i think a lot here are underselling barry and how much he has left

I also think you saying about hindering lundstram is could have the opposite, a model pro whose played at the highest level and has a lot left, dont think a year learning off him will do any harm at all, especially as lundstram is a way off getting games atm, hes not at the level of stones or barkley (yet)

a lot more can be taken from todays deals when the facts come out, loan fees wages paid etc, obv we all expect the felli money thats remaining to go on lawn mowers pens and such like, but that would have happened regardless as it has a habit under bill of doing

Mark your men have Lukaku come back and attack the ball and I don't see the problem. Fellaini and Osman defending set pieces isn't that much of a change from Lukaku McCarthy.

Honestly mate think if he could have gotten rid of heitenga he would have same with gueye, I expect the latter to be loaned to second division france soon tbh, Jelavich maybe their just wasnt any takers and the kone in i think was to give martinez two forwards he thought could do the job, maybe what hes seen of jela changed his mind and thats why he busted his arse to get in lukkaku?

The fact Anichebe can rise to 6 mill is enough to make me happy about this piece of business. It was always going to be sad to see Vic go, but the price is right and we've got another season to find his proper replacement.

Kone will never make sense to me, the only reason why I see him fitting into our squad is because I think if Jelavic realised he was getting picked over.... that, he'd either pick up his game or pick up his boots, Martinez doesn't leave room to feck around and it's obvious he's trying to get the best out of every single player on the pitch. Kone is taking Anichebes spot as an impact player but I'd much prefer Anichebe over Kone any day, seeing how Kone couldn't impact a child army even if he wanted to.

The loans are somewhat of a let down, but it's a season for us to build on, we've got money in the bank (praying Kenwright doesn't all of a sudden need a few ferrari's) for January and the end of the season. This is RM's welcoming season, he needs to groove his way into the club and wrap his head around what we can achieve and what the squad can do. If these are the players that will push our club into the direction we need, then so be it, I just haven't been this excited and nervous for a season in a very long time.

Barry, Deulofeu and Lukaku (supposedly) leave at the end of the season, Replacing Barry and Deulofeu isn't going to be nearly as difficult as replacing Lukaku, but as I said before, I honestly believe his loan's have been for depth and to push the squad to their potential.
