Transfer rumour: Marcus Berg

£10m is well over the top, I doubt he was genuinely worth £6m before the tournament, I just think every player is over-priced and over paid at the moment - and they say there's a 'cking credit crunch, pull the other one!

These inflated prices at the moment are insane.

It beggars belief, it really does. The one that really hit me was Keane for £20m. Just as bizarrely, Spurs took him back for about £16m.

I don't understand economic models, but surely this has to crash? I can't see how it can be sustained. Even bored billionaires will get cheesed off after a few years of seeing the pet teams win nothing.

It took Roman a while to get bored and by that time he had spunked £800m up the wall.

According to local papers, Bayern Munich are interested in him now.. Would be a challenge for him, but I don't think he'd get much time there unless they sell one of their current strikers. But the same story said that we are interested in pairing him up with Owen...:dodgy:

Groningen cool Berg exit talk | Everton | English Premier League | Football News from TEAMtalk

FC Groningen have reacted with surprise to the news that Marcus Berg is in talks with Hamburg even though the clubs have yet to agree a fee.

Groningen are holding out for 11million euros for the highly-rated Sweden international while Hamburg are thought to have offered 8million euros.
Groningen director Hans Nijland is, therefore, mystified at reports Berg is already in talks with the Bundesliga club.
Nijland told Voetbal International: "There is a big gap between what they now want to pay and what we want to get for him.
"That's why I find it a bit peculiar that he is there already.
"To get a deal they must first talk with FC Groningen and get a deal. Until then he is still on our payroll."
Berg scored seven goals in the recent European Under-21 Championship and is a reported target for several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Tottenham, Everton and Fulham.

Yet the German site, Kicker, says he arrived in Hamburg yesterday for a medical which is meant to be happening today. However, before he finally signs the contract, he would like a word with HSV's manager, Bruno Labbadia, who just so happens to be away at a training camp in Austria! There is the chance that Berg will travel down to Austria to have a face-to-face discussion; Kicker is hinting that the problem may be related to the fact that HSV has a mange rial revolving door and therefore (reading between the lines) that the player might be worried about stability at the club!

Link (in German) - sorry can't post it because this site says I haven't posted often enough to merit me posting links for goodness sake, but navigate to Kicker's site and the article is entitled "Berg ist schon da!"

Local papers says the deal is far from completed.

Apparently Berg has a clause in his contract that enables him to leave for around £5M next summer. Groeningen is demanding around £10M now, but Hamburg are only offering the sum Berg can leave for next summer.
