The first step to changing the system is to abolish Citizens United.
This can only be done by the Supreme Court. Should Trump get elected he would decide how the court majority would lean. He could have up to 3 picks. These are life long positions. The court would go right and Citizens United would remain in place. So although he would only be in power for 4 years, the long lasting damage he could do would be huge (as he might say). Hardly worth it just to shake things up and see what happens.
