What you and the Lennons of the world do is in no way different to how extremist Muslims use the Koran. In the same way proponents of most religions do with 'holy books and writings' they 'interpret' the words to suit an agenda. They pick and choose which elements are appropriate to their cause.
If you look closely all 'holy books' are rallying cries for war, the Abrahamic faiths more than others, but they all lay claim to superiority and knowing the true way to 'god/g-d'.
It's all thousands of years old misinterpreted, lost in translation and manipulated to achieve brand loyalty. They're businesses and they act that way.
