Just making sure there is some perspective here frandel

We're very quick to get stuck in to the young lads around these parts, just wanted to plant a seed in everyone's minds in hopes that the dogs aren't fully unleashed upon the lad after a so-so performance. Because that's all it was. The badness of it is being exaggerated. Not his best game but there were still things he did well

It's a service I provide gratis for the fine folk of this forum

Not at all. He was easily as bad as people are saying but there's this weird projection thing going on where people see Davies as this sort of avatar for their own fan dreams, like some floppy haired fan fic without the weeb elements. Criticise Davies (and rightly, as he was appalling last night) and you've kicked the proverbial puppy.

There's a reason he gets wheeled out after dreadful results to do some dancing classes and tells how he likes jumpers and cakes - because it's like catnip to his odd personality cult.

And you can have that one gratis too.

He was terrible today, but not in a way other players were terrible.

He didnt hide, he kept going and he always wanted the ball and tried to go forward.

Some of the other women on hte team decided to just play safe and simple...........get the ball pass it square, jog off so you dont give an option to get the ball back (ahem, im looking at you wayne & Gylfi)

Koeman has done him no favours this season.

Having said that, it was just a bad night for him last night. Can't blame Koeman for his inability to play 5 yard balls to his teammates. Some shocking passes last night, but he's a young lad and he will have games like that. Didn't hide and it isn't helping him the way the team is set up and the lack of creativity from the players around him.

He wasn't great last night, and that isn't just down to Koeman.

However, we lost control of the game when he went off.

He was giving us shape, which was stopping Apollon getting down our right.

Klaassen didn't really do much wrong, but he didn't keep the shape as naturally he's a central player.

Straw man argument, though, Mikey.

I could easily say "We're very quick to over-praise and under-criticise anyone local and under the age of 22 etc. etc." and it would be equally inaccurate because the 'fine folk of this forum' are not all black and white.

Tom Davies is one of my favourite players at the moment but I was holding my head in my hands at some of the balls he was playing and silly fouls he was giving away last night. Are we supposed to excuse everything because he is a young local player learning the senior game? And, if we accept that he will make mistakes and be inconsistent (which I agree with), are we on board with it contributing to results like last night (not being the reason but contributing to it)? And are we happy to make allowances for Koeman playing youth like so many have asked for?

Besic, for example, also has games where he doesn't hide despite a poor performance but doesn't seem to get the same allowances. To an extent, so does Mirallas.

Kenny, another young player that people have called for, had, I thought, a 'so-so' performance definitely not helped by Davies. Tom Davies last night was probably the worst I have seen him play. He'll have better games and hopefully learn from it, but I don't see the point in not talking about it just because he is a young Academy lad.

Hers the thing mate, i think he was better last night than Gueye, Schneiderlin, Rooney, Sandro and Sigurdsson, he was also a lot better than the bloke who came on for him in Klassen.

Does that mean he had a good game - no, but does it mean its mad as a brush to criticise a player who IMO anyway played better than all the other midifelders and forwards who started - yup

Klassen gave away an absolutely braindead free kick they scored from mate, so yeah i would classify that as something wrong tbh

I thought he was good last night. As others have mentioned, he doesn't take the easy option and unlike some others doesn't hide. He's always showing for the ball and trying to play a forward pass.

He also tries to do what is necessary for the team, even if it's not his natural game. For example yesterday he was trying to play right mid - when he went off we were exposed on that side as we regularly have been this season.

For me this season so far has only reinforced that I think he's a great asset to the club and has a bright future. He's consistently been a bright spot in some truly abject performances.

But he didn't. He absolutely stunk the place out. These player threads are essentially a review of players in isolation; so yes, Klaassen is the biggest horror show to have played for Everton this season , Siggurdson has been tosh, but Davies was poor last night and bar the Bournemouth game he's been pretty horrible all season.

He wasn't "terrible" as some people say. He was involved in play all the time and looked more likely than the rest to spring something. I'm sorry he was taken off to be honest.

I'm sorry but based on his performances this season that is complete Cult of Tom nose-dribbling poo poo.

It's about opinions then mate, i didn't think he was great by a long shot yesterday, but just average, some good some bad, but one thing he didn't do was slow us down like most and he was one of the only players besides Baines trying to inject ANYTHING going forward - despite being polayed wide left for half an hour for some god known reason

As for Sigurdsson - played well in two periods of games, both as soon as Rooney came off and he didn't have someone standing on his toes.

The thing is, people talk about Rooney getting in the way of Siggurdson but it was Iceland that was asked to stay out wide left. He's the one causing the congestion by having zero tactical discipline, and it's what caused him to bomb out at Spurs. Let's not get started on Klaassen.

Is Sigurdson so good that we should build a side round him? Not for me. But even if Koeman is convinced, why then bring in Rooney? Davies could have been his back up, he played there last season. Or even Pariah Number One Barkley. And again, where does Klaassen play?

You can't play Sandro alone up front on this league, so you need a second striker who can hold the ball up (and Sandro was bought in to play, he'd have waited for Atl. Madrid if he had expected to be a squad player here). So that's even less space for a number 10 player.

I do find it really odd that Rooney is getting blamed for the poor form when he's come in and scored goals. Sigurdson , a worldy assigned, needs the whole team to revolve around him and that's fine at Swansea level. But it has clearly meant that Davies et al are second and third tier options for RonKoe
