He's plays a character for God's sake! To take him seriously is to not get his act at all. Please read my blog-post I put on here earlier for more depth of explanation

So you're saying it's okay to rip the s**t out of disabled kids because it's part of his 'act' ?

I'm actually pretty embarrassed that you're sitting there defending him. Being a comedian does not give you an excuse to say whatever you like.

The fact there are massive differences of opinion on the red card in itself suggests it was debatable and could have gone either way. It certainly wasn't definitive - as always it's the ref's opinion that counts.
It's the internet ... you can find differences of opinion on genocide. The vast majority of people think it was very harsh.

I wonder if he consulted any of his numerous "assistant referees" before making that decision?

That's not stupid at all

Ever been to a wrestling show? I've been called all sorts of things by wrestlers. It's part of the show. It's an act

When he made fun of Katie Price's kid he wasn't playing a role, he was just saying offensive things to get a cheap laugh, just like he always does on Twitter. And even if he was playing a role, that's no excuse.

Yes, the Katie Price thing was going too far no doubt

But the fact he's playing a role does make his act okay because there's a disconnect. His act is to say something offensive, because hearing offensive things is funny. It's not for everyone but there's definately a disconnect

I'm always torn about offensive comedy. I can see both sides (that you should be able to joke about anything and that it's too easy to hide hate and bullying behind a thin veil of humour).

So, should people with Down's syndrom children who see these disgusting stereotypes being passed off as 'humor' just laugh it off mate ?

It's an extremely poor excuse to say that his 'act' is being offensive and that just makes it open season.

I think there's a common sense line, and when you're doing nothing but mocking disabled kids with old and offensive stereotypes you've clearly crossed that line.

He's not enciting hatred against people is he? The whole point is you laugh because he's said something horrific and you laugh because hearing someone say that is funny. At no point do I think that Frankie Boyle hates people with disabilities nor do I think he's saying he's okay to laugh at them. You're not laughing at them, you're laughing at Frankie for saying the offensive joke. Again, there's a pretty big disconnect from Frankie and the material. That's why it is funny and that's why it's okay. Bernard Manning said offensive stuff and it was bad because
A. He meant it
and
B. He wanted you to feel the same way

Frankie Boyle is not EITHER of those

So if you had a kid with downs, would it be alright for me to make jokes about kids with downs to you ?

Do you think it's okay to say black people look like monkeys mate ? I mean, it's just a joke, isn't it ?

Either everything is OK to poke fun at, or nothing is.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Boyle is a genius, but I don't see much wrong with what he's saying.

South Park had Cartman impersonating a disabled kid to take part in the special olympics and win money.

Family Guy had Chris go out with someone with Downs Syndrome and actual performed a musical number about it.

Or there's the singing diagnosis of "full blown AIDS" etc.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. The difference is when you're enciting hatred, and Boyle is not doing that - if anything, he's only inciting hatred against himself.
