Can't stand this rule where player's get sent off like that. It's not in the spirit of the game. It wasn't cynical or nasty and they got a penalty which is more than enough compensation.

Number one consideration should be preserving the game as a spectacle, people who paid in deserve that. The whole point is supposed to be finding out which is the better team on the day, couldn't give a balls about letter of the law.

Is it not better for us for Arsenal to be demoralised?

I never fancied Arsenal for the title because I felt that at some stage things would go against them, couple of decisions/ results (like any team gets every now and again). I just suspect they don't have the character and I don’t think Wenger helps in these situations either. I don’t think they'll be demoralised but they could become a bit rattled.

If you change the rule you'll have keepers consistently and purposefully fouling the opposition player in a 1on1 situation.

same as a defender doing it on the semi circle? same as someone cynically pushing someone over when they're about to slot into an empty net?

If they're last man theyll also be sent off. The last man fouling the opposition is obviously denying a goalscorring opportunity.

but we were talking about if it was a yellow instead of a red. i was just making the point that consistant and purposeful fouling in 1 on 1's happens now.

But not in 1 on 1 situations with the keeper.

Think about it, if you're a professional goalkeeper and you know that bringing a striker down will only get you a yellow, then they'd all be doing it in every single 1 on 1 situation.

yeah but the opposition will still have the chance to score from the peno.

the keeper can only do it once a game like and will only do it in extraordinary circumstances. To be fair, most of the times these days, the player could actually stay on their feet and slot the ball home. They fall over most the time these days because they get an extra advantage from a red card.

could also clamp down on diving in such situations as well.

it's not perfect, but there's no doubt in my mind it would benefit the sport.

You have to balance that against forwards who cynically dive to get keepers sent of and penalties, yet don't get red cards.

In this particular instance, there was more cynical behaviour from the keeper, so sending him off is simply wrong.
