Germany were beyond crap in that tournament, and no I’m not ignoring Croatia are a good side, but we lost to them, as we tend to do against good sides under this fraud of a manager. That Sven side would’ve beaten them.
Indeed, Germany were in the middle of an historic trough.

But, they are still Germany. Just as, tonight, England have beaten Italy. These are magnificent results for England at any time.

I mean we were a penalty shoot out away from winning a Euros?

He wins games, gets us to tournaments, and has got us further in tournaments than anyone since the 90's.

He's objectively doing a decent job with a pretty wonky squad if we're being honest.

This is simply because he has been given a very fortunate draw in 2 of those. He is quite clearly not a good manager. Winning games and getting to tournaments with England are not achievements.

And having such lofty expectations for a country that's won 1 major tournament, almost 60 years ago, is very wrong.

Our squad isn't even that good. We have good forwards and one good midfielder and like two good defenders.

Last response to you re: Southgate as it's boring me now.

Yup. I'm not English. England has some very good players indeed - but, the absolute hype about some of them is off the charts. I watch Jude Bellingham here in Germany most weeks. A very fine player. But to listen to the English media - only really during the World Cup, mind (they wouldn't deign to watch the Bundesliga) - you'd imagine Bobby Charlton was about to be knocked off his pedestal. I'm not sure England can expect to win major tournaments depending on the likes of Maguire, Shaw, and Declan Rice. All decent players, but that's about it (whatever the Premier League transfer market might tell us).

England are very good relative to many others at the moment - but that's at a time of historic lows for the likes of Germany, Italy, and even Brazil, who for all their so-called talent. haven't been in a World Cup semi-final outside their own country since 2002.

This is just a complete lie, goodnight Nymz.

Maguire doesn’t have to play. It’s the buffoon of a manager that continues to pick him. Genuinely Ben Mee is a better centre back than him.

Blacklisted publication, but I assume that’s the Sven squad. He did actually get similar results to Southgate but didn’t get to face bums in the knockout rounds of tournaments.
This is true, in his three tournaments Sven only came up against two bum sides in 14 games, Nigeria in 2002 (0-0 draw) and Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 (2-0 win), the other games being against

Sweden twice
Argentina
Denmark
Brazil
France
Switzerland
Croatia
Portugal twice
Paraguay
Ecuador

In contrast Southgate has faced Panama (6-1), Tunisia (2-1), Iran (6-2), Wales (2-0), USA (0-0), Scotland (0-0) and Senegal (3-0) with the other games being

Belgium twice
Colombia
Sweden
Croatia twice
Czech Republic
Germany
Ukraine
Denmark
Italy
France

Outside of like Argentina, Brazil and France international sides just aren't all that these days really. England's squad is super overhyped. I only follow them in tournaments so I can go to the pub.

Southgate is still in a job because of the luck of tournament draws and nothing else. He is an absolutely hopeless manager, I’d argue he’s as bad as Lampard.

I like the guy but really he should have stepped aside after the France game, dare say even after the Germany game

But somebody does. And, as a non-Englishman, I don't think there is quite as much talent there as Sky and the Premier League hype would have some believe.

I agree with you that Southgate is probably not the man to cleverly risk enough to win a major final, but I don't believe that this England side should be winning major titles either. They are very good relative to many others, but are they objectively of the class of, say, France? Or Germany in 2014? Or Spain 2008-12?

They come with such hype that they will never have the element of surprise to do a Denmark 1992 or Greece 2004. And they have really not produced a player of the brilliance of Figo or Ronaldo this century either, so I don't know what England should expect, to be honest, other than regularly making the last eight and occasionally making a semi or final. Which they do, to be fair.

Nobody is on that level. Argentina who won the World Cup are really not a great side in my opinion, they have a handful of great players and that’s it. Otamendi and Tagliafico still play regularly for them, their keeper plays for Aston Villa. It’s a low bar at the moment across international football, and England whether you like it or not, have one of the best squads in the world. France have the best squad on paper but who after that can you honestly say is miles better than England?
