I think what Rooney has here, is an “impossible to lose” scenario and the same goes for the players.

If Rooney and the players come good, and pull off a miracle, they’ll go down in Derby history (bizarre, but probably true), Rooney will have shown his credentials for being a good manager in a testing time.

The players can rally, because they know they’re effectively playing for a contract elsewhere, and they’re already expected to go down.

Perfect for Rooney, and he’s handled it perfectly. Endeared to the Derby fans and the players are playing for him.
Its a win/win for him. I really hope he does a good job and if he does, why shouldnt he be our manager in the future? Former players like him, and Lampard and Gerrard, need to be involved at some level in the game. If its in a managerial role only time will tell.

QPR flying this season. 3 brilliant goals.

Just me but isn't that missed header a penalty?

Willock with a nice goal. He was excellent against us too (not that it says too much, however).

Edit: Turns out he is older than Joe - I just assumed he was an up and comer younger brother lol

Can I ask what you are on about?

Why would his approach in possession concern you. He is bottom in the Championship, not down to him, and doing a good fist of trying to get out of the hole. Why concern yourself with possession approach and how he needs to get a team into Europe?

Maybe I am reading it wrong but that statement sounds like somebody trying to be too clever for their own good.
Someone suggested hiring him here I thought. Anyway someone definitely mentioned him being progressive so I was just kind of saying that while he might be doing well I'm not sure he is that yet.

Its been said ,by a fellow blue, that the only time since ,the war 2nd,that we have won anything is when an
ex player has been manager.Catterick,Kendal and Royle. And my same pal suggested at
some later stage a combination of good old Dunc and Rooney in charge could be a winner.?

I think they did and the following is targeted at them as well as anybody else who thinks that uses buzz words is a cool thing to do :). It is no different to annoying business speak.

What is progressive though, what does it mean?

It is one of those terms that has no definition, or at least everybody has their own interpretation. I prefer to see if a manager can adapt, I don't care for words such as 'progressive' or 'philosophy', just sounds a bit pretentious, but that is me. They mean zero, in relation to a managers real ability to be able to manage a certain club at a certain time.

Rooney, at this time, looks like he has the potential but it is far too early to tell and far too early to discuss whether he is 'progressive', whatever it means to the individual who is saying it.

Progressive is whatever, philosophy matters though, at least to me. Part of the issue at Everton, and there are many, is that we just hire managers with no consideration to whether or not their preferred way of setting up a team meshes at all with what the rest of the club is.

On Rooney he might be a good manager. But the same as any championship manager I wouldn't hire them based on results. Without having looked too closely at Derby I have a feeling the things that I would be looking for Rooney's current side don't possess. I'm not blaming him in that at all as the situation is bleak, just saying for me he's still got it all to prove.

How can you you say he isn't a progressive manager when you also admitted you don't watch Derby???

I didn't say that? I asked someone who did watch them if he was, they sent a video of a set play which was cool but didn't really show me what I was curious about and then I said I still wasn't sure. Look it is literally right here:

Saying I'm not sure he is yet means you don't think he's a progressive manager yet.

But how can you know, when you said you don't watch Derby? You're saying he isn't based on never watching his side play.
No it means I don't know. I'm not sure what he is exactly.

That said I can read. And I'd be surprised if a team that is scoring and allowing about one goal a game and getting out shot every week is playing on the front foot a lot. But then maybe one day I'll watch Derby and they will be because I don't know.
