Eddie Howe is not keeping this team up.
We can hope. In all seriousness, they need more than one or two quality players to make this squad look even semi-competent to stay up.
  • 26 Darlow
  • 23 Murphy
  • 17 Krafth
  • 6 Lascelles
  • 2 Clark
  • 11 Ritchie
  • 24 Almirón
  • 14 Hayden
  • 8 Shelvey
  • 10 Saint-Maximin
  • 9 Wilson
I literally think only those two - maybe the keeper and at a stretch Lascelles too - are good enough. They're not going to get a striker with enough goals in them.

Wilson can’t be relied upon to stay fit which will be a major issue for them.

Honestly think they will be all but gone before the window even opens.

Is it? Who is the last team that went down where at the start of the season the betting odds had them top half?

Maybe one of the times Newcastle or West Ham went down?

Forest reached a FA cup final and finished 8th (ish), had Des Walker, Stuart Pearce, Roy Keane, plus others in their team. Managed by Brian Clough. Won their first 3 games iirc. Then went down the next season.

Over half of the entire football league, 92 clubs, have been in the PL. Probably more when you factor in the old Div 1 days. (Bristol City, Carlisle, Notts County off the top of my head).

Please don’t compare your drugged up fullbacks who can’t defend to two of the greatest in their position of all time, thanks.
Maldini and Lizarazu in that era were better than Carlos at LB, what he had over them was a more attacking game, but pure defending in that era they were better and they also were also good at attacking just not at the level of Carlos who was a winger who played LB.

Like i said FBs for the top teams today are not defenders they are winger/midfield hybrids, the game has evolved, doesn't matter if they cannot defend as you say, when they get 15-20 assists a season, its better than making 10 defensive mistakes in a season that lead to goals.

Look at Man United, 2 fullbacks cost a combined £90 million, last 3 seasons together they have 6 assists in the PL combined, you don't win things in the modern game with FBs with that output.

Yeah I was thinking relevant examples with respect to that old Forest side.

Sheffield United if you want a more relevant example. 8th in their first season back? Gone the next.

Ipswich under Burley. He got manager of the year. Next season, gone. (might have been the one after)

Leeds this season? Portsmouth won the cup. Gone.

Peter Reid had Sunderland in successive top 6 finishes.

Gone.

Leeds if they go down would be closer. I'm more talking about expectation entering the season so Sheffield United don't really count because everyone still had them about 15th going into the next year.
