Oh dear.............Yeah but I'm genuinely interested why the OP didn't expect Vieira to do "this well". What is it about Vieira that made him underestimate his managerial ability?
Big advantage on us though is that as Ashley didn’t spend they have a lot of buying power now under FFP.Who's buying those sorts of players? Same boat as our tosh.
Imagine. They'd come on, score a goal each and then do their hamstrings and be out until the last game of the season.Diego Costa and Daniel Sturridge both out of contract !

Leeds if they go down would be closer. I'm more talking about expectation entering the season so Sheffield United don't really count because everyone still had them about 15th going into the next year.
No again Sheffield doesn't fit the point I'm making which is very rarely does the entire football world assess the PL teams at the start of the season and rate a team as top half only for them to go down. Yes established clubs do drop but it is usually a prolonged slip. For all our problems we are still probably a couple more seasons of crap away from it.So you are falling into the trap that many do. Established clubs stay up/new comers will be found out. Expectation. To be fair, Leeds going would reinforce that, as per Sheffield.
This Everton squad, after god knows how much money, is wafer thin, and poor. "We wont go down" is for the clowns. That said, I hope you are correct.

Trust me I'm aware that we very much can go down but it will not be this season.
Our finishes have been 11th 11th 7th 8th 8th 12th 10th. That isn't really slipping yet.Quite. And we have done what in the last 5 years? With all that money?
Not saying we will, just saying that dismissing it is nonsense.
But having to put this in kind of derails your point that it is possible...I disagree.
It’s now arrogance to think we can’t get sucked right into a dogfight. With a team with no backbone may I add.
We are now on the same points as a gash Southampton side, who are now showing some fight.
Newcastle bid for DCL or Richy in Jan with serious money and one offer is too good to turn down.
Our record signing won’t play for us again.
We are an absolute mess mate.
If other sides go on a run, panic will set in.
His managerial record was indifferent and he hadn’t managed in the Premier League before. Most Palace fans I know had these concerns, but were hopeful it would pan out the way it seems to be going.Yeah but I'm genuinely interested why the OP didn't expect Vieira to do "this well". What is it about Vieira that made him underestimate his managerial ability?

That was nearly 20 years ago! We've taken a step back yes but we need to take two or three more to go down and we've not done those since we took that initial one under Martinez. Which isn't to say we can't. Your point about the money is right but that's why I'm saying we can go down in the future. That doesn't matter for this year. The team is the team more or less and it isn't going down this term. For £500m?
Give or take. Turn that tap off, and 4th (under Moyes) is 6 places higher than last season. So 10th minus 6 is 16th. Reckon that would be a slippage.
In order of likelihood for me is:
