I find it highly amusing that the three lions badge of England was the personal sigil of the Norman French Plantegenets who themselves were direct descendants of William the [Poor language removed] who conquered and oppressed the English. Furthermore the King who made it a national symbol was Richard 1st , a ruler who despised England , spent the vast majority of his life abroad, couldn't speak a word of English and was guilty of major war atrocities while waging gratuitous war in the Middle East.
It somehow couldn't be more appropriate.

One can only hope the beating this time is not overly embarrassing for those expats who live amongst foreign folk, and that our travelling, flag waving, ambassadorial countrymen represent us in the best possible light.
