Tired Players

"Should" is irrelevant. I can just about suspend disbelief enough to believe my opinions about this game have a vague hint of merit but as far as their physical and/or mental condition after X games ... no idea. If they're tired then they're tired ... "should" doesn't matter. There is no should. Our squad is tiny ... if any team was going to be tired now it would be us no matter how many cup games we played.

Motd just galvanised what I was thinking post game about Baines.

He had very little protection from Osman, Barkley or Mirallas who all played Left Midfield today.

But Kyle Walker really did expose his weaknesses. He pretty much had Baines beaten everytime. I actually think he's the best RB in the league by far after that performance.

However I really do feel Baines us nackered. He hadn't been himself for 6 week or so. He managed to get forward once yesterday.

Walker changed my opinion of him too after today. That said the set-up the past few weeks has seen Baines game sacrificed a little.

tiredness isn't only physical fatigue (which im sure baines is feeling having been everpresent, and having seen the state of his legs when he was subbed vs cheltenham--- noticed him giving them a rub before throw-ins yesterday too, im sure his legs are a real state)
its more about mental fatigue. the 2 goals we conceded yesterday were very much down to a lack of focus by our players, something that is seriously difficult to maintain over 90 minutes, let alone over every 90 minutes over an entire season.
we did excellently vs city- you could see just how in it every player was over the course of that game.
should we expect that from our players for every game, them being professional footballers aspiring to play champions league? maybe..
but i have a feeling Fellaini is going to come back from his suspension totally rejuvenated. I feel if anyone's going to carry us through so that we're still in with a fighting chance vs Chelsea in the last game- its him.

How do we define tiredness as opposed to simply having a bad game? The only people that really know the physical levels of the players are the coaching staff. Presumably they're keeping a good eye on how they perform physically and will see any drop-off in physical output. The rest of us are merely guessing.

Or they could just have a good game in their first game back? How would you know the difference?

Messi and Ronaldo never get rested. They never get 'tired'. But that's also a marker of why they're considered the best in the world. It's not a case of "they're the best and theyyy never get rested"-- them never needing rest, having that physical and moreso mental fitness and consistency is what marks them out as the best..

I hear you though- is Baines actually tired or was he just missing the protection Pienaar usually affords him. If Baines was rested vs Stoke would he have not made the mistake that led to the equalizer?

Not to say that fatigue isn't a factor and resting wouldn't provide benefits, more that it's very hard for us to see if that's the case as we don't have the physical data that the coaching staff have.

Sorry guys can't link the story (on my phone) if someone could that would be great..,,
Moyes interview in the echo talking about rotation and tired players.

Basically goes on to say that after rotating against Leeds, it not working and us going out the cup he made the decision then that he was "roughly going to stick with his strongest 11 every game" if that led to tired players and us falling short through tiredness then so be it. And the fact our squad isn't strong enough to rotate.

Good read anyway. I know a lot don't but I do agree he's done the right thing.

So, from changing almost the whole team, excepting the two out of form and vulnerable centrebacks failing versus a team that did their homework, to get the ice bag ready for Leighton 'cos I can't selectively rest Baines for 45 mins and give Oviedo a run out?
Nice revisionism Moves.
