Tired Players

Mental Patient, GOT Ward
I keep reading in various threads that some of our players look tired.

Now I'm not buying this nonsense because -

a) We got knocked out of the League Cup early doors so only played 2 extra games.

b) We got knocked out of the FA Cup QF stage an extra 4 games.

c) We are not in Europe so no extra games.

D) They are supposed to be professional athletes at their physical peak, with top level sports science and nutrition.

What do others think about this?

Hope this hasn't been done before I tried searching but couldn't see anything and it's the first thread I've started.

No they shouldn't be tired, they're professional footballers they should be able to handle playing just the one game a week as it is atm.

There's such thing as GOT bread?!

Where can I get some?

It doesn't exist sorry mate made it up try carrot cake with blue cheese but not me

YEAH BUT THEY GET PAID 10 SQUILLION POUNDS A WEEK SO THAT MEANS THEY SHOULD PLAY AT THEIR ABSOLUTE PHYSICAL PEAK EVERY SINGLE GAME EVER.

glad you got that off your chest mate thanks for your input. There is a difference between being tired and playing at your peak every week isn't there though mate but if shouting sh*t makes you feel better glad I could help

No excuse at face value, however players have been carrying injuries without being rested to recover fully. Careful, gradual, and selective blooding of youth by Moyes lacking here.

It wasn't shouting it was sarcasm.

When people say that some players look tired they don't mean they're stood on the pitch yawning their head off and don't have the energy to get around the pitch.

They mean that certain older members of the squad who have played most of our games this season don't quite look as sharp as they could be, especially towards the end of games/season.

It doesn't matter how much they're paid, or how well they're trained, they're only human so will inevitably show signs of "tiredness". Both mentally and physically.

Its only the fact they are top professional expected to play to a high level every game that makes it show up when they don't. They could play Sunday league football week in week out forever, but in the Prem any step off in performance will be picked up, and thats what "tiredness" refers to.

No, we have no reason to be since we've been knocked out of both cups and weren't in the Europa League.

I think too many regard poor performances down to tiredness, where really it is what it is, a bad performance. Squad rotation is not really his thing either so when a player has a bad game it's pretty inevitable that they will still start the next game.

It took Neville to play like a sunday league player once to often before he was dropped. Heitinga has been very poor at times and still got in ahead of others.

I just don't go for the tiredness angle

Not very good sarcasm but anyway.

A lot of people refer to tiredness as playing too many games, this is what this thread was about.

"ossie is tired he needs a rest"

i've seen this many times written on here and i don't go for it we are not in europe we are out of all cups they shouldn't look tired. Had a sh*t game would be more appropriate.

It's stuff like Baines sticking his swollen feet into bags of ice as soon as he can that gets me. Ace commitment from him, but surely Moyes can say 'get your noses in front and i'll get one of you off for twenty minutes', without giving the incumbent an expansive roll beyond their experience/ability.

One thing sports clubs do to determine tiredness(or whatever you'd like to call it???) is battery testing. So they'll get them all to sprint say 30 metres and then record the time. From that they'll then re-test periodically and judging by the difference in times(this is amongst other test BTW) they will determine what condition the athlete is in. Mental fatigue is a different thing althogether but both are real and thats why clubs spend fortunes monitoring them.
