2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

Armstrong is the one, he’s way ahead of Tim at the same age and will go on to be a much better all round midfielder
Like I mentioned his passing stats aren’t great. Again this only what I heard on a podcast. Apparently he had a 78% pass completion v Arsenal and only
Made 29 passes, gana I think was 88% for 44 passes.
I’d take Tim over Harrison at this point if I had to choose which of the two has the best chance of being anything more than a reasonable Premier League player. The whole game is becoming increasingly more athletic and physical which is where Tim has the edge. Both are excellent prospects - let’s hope we can develop both of them to become our regular starters.

Undecided on Tim. Overall, I don't think he's good enough, no assists, no shots. MF's HAVE to do this, even if their role is too primarily block/ break position moves.

I fundamentally don't get this position anyway. What Southgate even once labelled ' the Kalvin Phillips position'. Wtf? Who?

Every good deep lying midfielder I rate was a threat both ends. I'm not expecting EFC to land a legend like Rodri, Viera, Pirlo etc, but even players like Souček ( who's now past it or our own Fellaini) could do this previously.

So Tim must add that threat to his game or he's just a squad-filling blocker when we're defending.

The great irony being: when you carry zero forward threat your team inevitably needs to do a lot more defending! Even Gana gets forward more.

Give Tim next season to develop, then we'll know.
I can’t stand the modern obsession with reducing players to goals and assists. It’s possible for midfielders to dominate a game and provide neither. He’s excellent at tackling, shielding the ball under pressure and beating the press. His passing is the mean thing he needs to improve. He picks the right passes but just doesn’t execute them at the moment.

There’s 3 yrs between them. Harrison is streets ahead at the same age And yes maybe the mid table sides will be more Brawn than Brain, but to compete at the top end you need more than being big and strong . All top teams have class midfielders And that’s what we will need to get to that level. Tim’s stats like ive mentioned for passing, keeping possession, creating chances, assists, scoring goals. Put him in the bottom half of prem midfielders for this season, yes he may improve, but there’s a good chance it will only be a slight improvement, look at doucoure who never improved that part of his game.

let’s see what happens, but imo in 3 yrs when Harrison is Tim’s age, he will be dominating midfields, at the top end of the premier league and most likely in the England squad

How exactly have you measured this, and why are you making it a competition between the two of them? Can't we just be satisfied and pleased that we have two young and exciting central midfielder in our squad?

We disagree a lot but you're so right here. Kante got very few goals and assists even at his peak and every team in world football would still give their left nut for a prime Kante.

Have they played centrally together, ever? We won't know how well/unwell they fit until Armstrong stops being a winger for no reason tbh, it's all guesswork right now. HA seems more technical so he should be benefitting a lot of a physical presence next to him for sure, but that's on paper, we'll see what happens if/when they play.

Im not making it a competition. I’m just putting my opinion across. There a few staying Tim, is better and has more potential etc etc.
Just Tim is 23 this summer and Armstrong has just turned 19. I’m not sure Tim improves on a lot of his deficiencies, like I’ve said he’s way behind gana, garner and KDH this season on a lot of stats
. Garner is only a year older and seen as our best CM now and may even break into the World Cup squad.

Yeah 'assists' is a bit blunt, you can obvs break up a move and initiate an attack without getting an assist.

But the fact he'd get maybe 0 goals, assists at the moment shows how lacking his general forward involvement is, be that passes, assists, goals etc.

Happy to see him develop fit a season within a more stable team plan. His pace is a question mark too.

His biggest issue is that he's wildly inconsistent. It's fine to have ups and downs but he's had a few games this year where he's been absolutely awful, way below an acceptable standard, and you just can't really be doing that at this level. When he's good he looks the business, but he really needs to gain a level of consistency where even his bad games are still a 6/10 otherwise he'll never push on any further.

Garner was previously similar in terms of lacking goals and assists and has improved. I've never noticed pace being a problem. Stamina yes but he covers the ground well.

To be fair, it's your opinion and that's great....but if he's turns out as good as you are suggesting it's highly unlikley he'll be playing in our midfield.
As I said, let's hope both fulfil their potential and do it at Everton.
